Clutch Basket Free Play/movement?

Is the clutch basket meant to be solid when its fully tightened down with the clutch plates in it, or is it meant to have a small amount of movement. I am not taking about movement between the basket and the gear riveted onto it which i know is not meant to be there. I don't have that problem.
