July 31, 201313 yr I am going to set the squish to 1.20mm (Splatshop recommended) So I have 2 standard 0.5mm gaskets and 1 Shim 0.2 mm. Not sure if there is a certain way they go on, as the standard ones have white rings around the bits where the coolant flows to seal against the metal? But the shim doesn't. So would it go standard, shim , then a standard again, so the shim in the middle? But when I was taking off the old gaskets it looked like the shim was on top of the 1 standard (1mm) gasket from the factory....
July 31, 201313 yr I do not know the correct order specific to your bike, but whenever I have this gasket / shim combination I put the shim in the middle and bond all 3 together with hylomar and use hy;omar on the faces to barrel and crankcase as well.
July 31, 201313 yr Author After i posted this i realized the shim was on top because there was only 1 standard gasket at 1mm... so it has to be (Blonde Moment). There must not be the white silicon ring improving the seal at the top then. I have some hylomar which ill use as suggested with the shim in the middle. Thanks
August 1, 201313 yr These typically come from factory with standard gasket then shim on top. I do not believe sealing has ever been a real issue, normally, and I do not like the use of excess sealants upon assembly. Within your "stack" I would likely slip the shim in the middle, as Dadof suggests, however I would limit the use of other sealers to a minimal light smear around the front coolant port as with the factory gasket, and that is all. Be your own judge, yet tread lightly! MC
