My Dog Bone Exploded!

Featured Replies

I leapt off a 1 foot bank and both the dog bone pivots (back suspension linkage) have exploded, collapsing the swingarm onto the exhaust pipe. When I have recovered my bike I shall photograph it...

Any damage to the exhaust? seems odd that the dog bones would fail like that. have there been any BIG hits or drop offs before this? or is it a faulty set of dog bones?

Yes, pictures please when you get it back.....off to the garage now to check mine over

Never seen or heard of it before on any of the 20 or so ossas I know of in my area, ism interested to see what is meant by exploded, did the bones themselves fail or was it a failure of the dogbone pin? I know they modified the pin on the 2013 models

The pivot pin seems undamaged and straight... Hard to photograph

The back pivot broke on one side too.....

The drop off was tiny and I'm not an aggressive rider (ask anyone who saw me in action at the SSDT this year) though I do weigh 95kg.

It looks to me like a failure of the casting...

The exhaust pipe is dinkled in at the bottom, forcing it off the engine port. I shall probably need a new exhaust pipe it will be impossible to straighten gas tight.

Yes bad failure, are you still in the warranty period?

On another note, it does look very dry around the pivot points in there which could have had an impact I suppose

Back to a proper bike!

My 2012 did the same, Birkets sent me a full 2013 rear suspension set up under

warranty which is a lot stronger and uses bolts rather than C clips
