The only problem with my 2003 290 Sherco is its a bitch to start, especially when its cold and wet. Any advice would be greatly appriciated.

first start ? or even when its hot

turn fuel on..open throttle 3 times...kick up with no throttle.. 2/3 kicks is usually all thats needed.

Don't forget the choke (enrichener).

BTW...I don't think twisting the throttle first will help. There's no accelerator pump, so it won't do anything.

It is important to use NO throttle. If you're tempted to twist it, put your right hand on the crossbar when you kick.

If you're still having trouble, you could drill the starter jet.

I did on mine.

It sometimes takes 4-5 kicks to start if it's cold and damp and it's travelled on a trailer.

The rest of the year...2 kicks...like clockwork.

Very strange, never had a problem starting on any of my 290's. Check and clean cab check and clean magneto, spark plug gap etc all the basic stuff but that is unusual. Float level set at 18.5?

Tried kicking it off with no throttle, kicked off first time, mind you it had been in the garage all night. I'll see what happens on a cold wet morning.
