December 4, 201411 yr Hello all. So, I have eventually put my 290 back together following trying to sort out the ever troublesome sticky clutch issue with the 'Beta Clutch Mod'. After a couple of minutes of riding, hey presto, no more sticky clutch....result.....but, it's developed another clutch issue that is slightly frustrating. The clutch has lost all of it's lovely progression. When releasing the lever its, nothing, nothing, nothing, EVERYTHING! When it bites it's really aggressive, to the level of it being pretty unusable. It's a proper launch forward.....which is great if I was looking to kill myself. Does this sound familiar to anyone and is there a cure? It didn't have this problem before, and I can't see what damage I could have caused just by doing that modification to the plates. December 4, 201411 yr Are you using atf?if so this makes the clutch sharper .Proper gear oil makes it more progressive though sometimes at the expense of slight drag

December 5, 201411 yr I did my clutch last month and at 1st found the clutch rather grabby but after a few hours it bedded in nicely, could be it needs a bit of use to take any rough edges off the fibre plates that may have been left by the fileing. Edited December 5, 201411 yr by vonhazza

December 24, 201411 yr Polishing the sides of the tabs that ride in the slots on the basket is essential to make the clutch progressive. Another thing that can happen is the tabs wear grooves in the slots that prevent the tabs from sliding smoothly. Some have reported luck with filing the sides of the grooves smooth again though I'm a little nervous about that myself.
December 24, 201411 yr With what a basket costs I wouldn't bother filing the fingers, from memory new basket, rivets & rubber dampers is only about £40 & splatshop has a step by step guide to doing the job. Bike runs quieter & clutch operates like a new 1 afterwards
