Should the chain case of my Cub be completely devoid of oil?

The bike was to be put through the workshop before it was delivered to me so it should be right as far as oils are concerned but when I removed the chain case drain last night nothing came out. I then removed the side case and it was totally dry in there....

There is no gasket either so I assume this must be right but it seems odd to me. It has PVL ignition.

I was a little bit alarmed to find that there was only 50ml of oil in the gearbox and have now changed that to 200cc of EP90.

So far I have only run it around my drive for 20 minutes or so in total but I don't want to run it again until I know that everything is as it's meant to be.

There should be 200cc of oil in the gear box and 200cc in the clutch but I run less in the clutch That is per workshop manual There is a gasket fitted to the primary cover The gear box drain plug ( bigger hex) should have a tube fitted to level the oil and a smaller plug in the middle ( small hex) to do this level. At the moment I use Electrix world and standard clutch and use a chain tensioner with no ill effects

Yep, I filled the gearbox to the level indicated by the tube in the centre of the gear box drain plug.

I know that the primary should have 200ml but is there any legitimate reason that it wouldn't have any in at all or to only have 50ml in the gearbox?

The cub clutches are notorious for slipping especially when you increase the engine power and/or reduce the primary gearing (yours looks to be standard). It is common practice to just put around 50 to 100 ml of automatic transmission fluid in the case, just to lube the chain and the bearing between the clutch drum and clutch basket . This bearing only runs when the clutch is pulled so is lightly loaded. Cubs converted to belt primary drive run dry.

There are several places the gear box can leak and no real cure, it is just case of regular top ups.

never ran oil in mine just lubed the timing chain with a spray oil..soak the plates for 24 hrs before assembly if you like then if the chains oiled job done..

Do you have a primary chain tensioner on there can't see.
