If you have a spark and you don't get a bang or pop after putting petrol directly into the barrel any ideas what this means, is the timing totally out?

In order to get a boom, you will need a mixture, not gas. So you will need a carb.

 

Also make sure you dont float your entire crankcase with fuel.

Whats the history ? A spark somewhere around TDC on the firing stroke ought to make something go bang with a little fuel down the plug hole. A cam and spark timing check is in order.

Got very patchy interweb at the mo, at a farm in the Peak district, I think the sheep are chewing the phone lines....
