Bent Shift Fork?

Featured Replies

2011 2.9.

I have a little play at the shift lever, i can get 1-3rd easily but shifting up from there is non existent, it will move up but not wanting to click into gear, if i wiggle the shift lever in i can sometimes get 4th. i change the oil every 3-4 rides and always use the clutch while shifting.

Totally random with this problem, shifted perfectly the last time i rode it.

Anything i should try before i split the cases to see what is actually going on here?

look here

you should just be able to pull the side cover off and see if somethings not right. if it's in the transmission then you would need to split the cases. it's been a long time since i've had to do anything like this.  is the shift lever pinch bolt tight? could be slipping? if you pry gently you might not even mess up the gasket

Pull the clutch cover and the clutch and everything is there. Awhile back I had one of the roller pins break off the end of the shift drum. Luckily that is a separate piece to the shift drum. Real easy fix. You could also have just a bent shaft. Good luck.

$12.60 us. Glad i took it out around the yard before the event this weekend!

Not unheard of on any brand, lucky you found it before it got into the primary gears

Good job! Now be sure to re-torque the clutch basket nut properly!

45 FTLBS or 60N/M, correct?

Been happening since 1999 cant they fit a stronger spring ?

All manufacturers have issues not just sherco.
