September 16, 201510 yr During a conversation at a trial last weekend I was told that 5 speed boxes are now being made for Bantams ? So had a look around on the intraweb and only found a few references to road racing. So who is doing them,or is it the GPO trying to get their telegrams delivered quicker.
September 17, 201510 yr Why on earth are you interested in Bantam gearbox, unless you're thinking of putting one in the C15?
September 17, 201510 yr Hi Guy's. Hi Wallo, How many gears you got on your Bantam??? Regards Charlie.
September 17, 201510 yr Try Mick Grant or Jim Pickering they seem to be the authority on Bantams at the moment.
September 18, 201510 yr didn't know bantam gearbox's fitted C15's. Never too old to learn something new....
September 19, 201510 yr I am building another Bantam, you can buy a lower 2nd gear set and a higher top which would be handy in a road trial which I have in my new engine. I can't see the advantage of a 5 speed cluster, maybe okay on a road bike but the road bike fraternity don't spend the same sort of money on their bikes as the trials riders.
September 19, 201510 yr Only good for bragging rites IMHO. Thing is the Bantam started out as a 3 speed which then became a 4 speed. Effectively all they did was like everybody else, including Bultaco with the 6 speed, they slimmed down the existing gears to get the extra gears into the same space. I know modern materials and oils are a quantum leap from what was available back then but i would be concerned about longevity of the gear cluster in a 5 speed. There will still be people who will buy one though so as someone once said to me "the legality or not of parts i make is not my concern. If people want to buy it i will make it. I have to earn a living after all " and you cant argue with that can you ?
