199 A Gas Tank Interchageability

Featured Replies

I just picked up a model 199 A.

I have a chance to pick up a Campeon kit tank from a 125 Sherpa fairly cheap. Will the Campeon tank fot the 199 A? Always loved the looks of those kits.

The rear subframe / swingarm pivot were pushed further forward on the later models so you may find it's too long and the sidepanesl will overlap into the rear shocks

I just tried this for you and sadly they wont interchange, M91 slimline tank onto 199B frame and the Slimline wont come down flush on the horizontal seat frame rails - ie sits up by at the seat end by at least 100mm. It fouls on the diagonal tubes that run forward up from the swinging arm pivot to the petrol tap area, these appear to be a fair bit wider at the top where the tank sits, not an easy fix.

Cheers Greg

Hi is the kit still available, my brothers slimline tank has seen better days

His is a 325, is the tank seat the same from the 125 ?

The later model 91 and 92 had the panels trimmed to allow for the wider down tubes  of the 2nd series frame , the later 199 were similar but not sure if the tubes spay out further

Hi Herman

I also have a 199A that came Fox rear shocks on it, your photo is very small but it looks like your bike may also have the same shocks if you are thinking of rebuilding them Thor Lawsons in VA is one of a few places left that has most of the parts on stock. The good thing about the plastic  tank is no matter what you do it will always

look ok mud grit rocks just wash off !
