My new to me Sherco 07 has a slight oil weep from the right hand side crank cover. It looks like the gasket may have been caught when it was replaced recently (prior to my ownership), or so I am hoping. Suffice to say, I have read many an oil change post but few, if any refer, to a level check. Is there a way of doing this by leaning the bike over or some such? I will order up a new gasket and change the oil, but want my daughters to be able to practise on it still without the worry of running dry. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

There isn't a level plug or sight glass, so it's not possible to determine how much oil is left in without draining the whole lot and measuring how much comes out. If it's no more than a weep you should be OK to ride for a session without running out of sufficient oil. Could always pour a few cc in while you're out with the bike to be safe, without overdoing it.

I think you are right. That's the best option. Drain anyway and see how much comes out. Assuming it was correctly filled there shouldn't be much short of 450ml.

I do not know if the following applies to your Sherco but the following is something all riders should be aware of.

At one time all 2T trials bike main bearings were lubricated by autolube or premix. Now quite a few rely on the transmission oil. Transmissions are quite tolerant of dirty oil or low oil levels, main bearings are NOT. Up slopes in particular when the engine is working at its hardest the transmission oil runs to the back of the engine / gearbox, potentially starving the main bearing of lubrication. Any dirt or low oil level accentuates this.

Interesting. I run putoline light gear oil in my Gas Gas, so was assuming this would be okay for our 04 and 07 bikes.

I dropped the oil as suggested  and there was about 350ml so topped up and pit back in. The filler plugs are rubbish. Soft ally and over tightened on both our Shercos. Idiots.

if the skid plate has been hard hit it can push the rubber up into the clutch side case and bend it or break the seal causing a leak.
