March 28, 20188 yr Hi all my name is mick quick I have a 1954 AJS I found a few years ago the frame had been hacked about so I decided to put it in trials trim its nearly finished . it has standard road gearing it has a16 tooth gear box sprocket can anyone advise me on how many teeth for the sprocket thanks mick
March 29, 20188 yr Your 350 AJS will most likely still have road ratios in the gearbox. Is this a rigid rear or swinging arm model, it was around this time 1954 that frames changed. You also need to check the rear hub as some had the sprocket as part of the hub. The engine may have a 14 tooth sprocket. The rear sprocket could be 48 tooth+ there are some variables and you might want 52 tooth. Is this a 16 MS ?
March 30, 20188 yr Author Hi Thanks for your reply, yes its a swinging arm model .the smallest gear box sprocket available 16 teeth .I think 52 teeth will lower the gearing enough hopefully thanks mick
