January 24, 20215 yr I got this tank with my 198A that I am restoring. I believe it is Fibre Glass [Not Good] and has a push fit fuel cap I believe it could be a period Sammy Miller item? Edited January 24, 20215 yr by Old Gezzer Spelling!
January 25, 20215 yr It has the shape of the preceding model, the 198/199, however they were red in colour. The 198/199 had fibreglass tanks for the first 700/800 bikes off the production line, which switched to the plastic tank after that. The stripe on the side of the tank is from the early production run 198/199 as well. Ive never encountered one with that type of breather pipe or push on filler cap. More than likely a aftermarket job. I think I can make out SM on the Bultaco graphic. Edited January 25, 20215 yr by model80
January 25, 20215 yr I'd say a Miller tank. He never used a proper Bultaco filler cap on his own tanks, they were a chrome cap, probably from a car and were a twist fit, not threaded. The Miller tank that was fitted to a bike I bought also had the breather tube as the cap wasn't vented The glass tanks fitted by Bultaco to the early run of 198/199 were different from this one, they were the new slimmer style that narrowed to the rear, similar shape to the plastic tank. Our UK bikes continued with this old shape introduced from the 158/159
January 25, 20215 yr Fibreglass tanks OK if you look after them. 1. Clean out tank / seal properly. 2. Remove ethanol (E5- 5%) from petrol. Easy- see You Tube. 3. Empty tank & leave cap off when not using bike. Works for me.
