Guys- as you probably know, the stock air filter is not the easiest thing in the world to service or maintain.  It worries me that the air box and air filter may allow dirt to enter the carb because of a poor fit and or leaks.  Has anyone come up with a fix for the stock air filter problems?

That combination of Uni brand filter and Yamaha cage that your links bring up works great for me.

The only problems I've had over the years with the standard TY250 airbox are the Yamaha brand filter element falls apart quickly and that another aftermarket brand filter was too bulky to fit inside the airbox without it touching the sides.

The UNI filter NU-2218 works fine in the 1974 TY250A, and includes the cage.  Up until spring of 2022 the Yamaha filter was still available through dealers in the US, but is now listed as "obsolete".  TwinAir also makes a filter that is supposed to fit, but I no longer have the part #.  Parts Unlimited in the US is a distributor for the UNI products.
