Kickstart Bearing

Maybe a silly question but how on earth do you fit the 5.5mm ball bearing in the kickstart when the thread for the spring and grub screw is m5. The bearing doesn’t slide down the threaded hole and the lever won’t fit the hinge if the bearing is installed inside first. 
My only thought is that it’s not supposed to be 5.5mm?

This is for a 2003 Sherco 250.
