December 28, 20223 yr Saw an article in todotrial that a Chinese tire manufacturer is to be the sole supplier for the WTC and it will “improve” competition by having less traction. Somebody please tell me this was an April fools joke.
December 28, 20223 yr 28th December is their equivalent of April 1st. The concept isn't a bad idea given some of the absolute rip off prices I've seen for tyres this year
December 28, 20223 yr Author Oh thank god! Given some of what’s come out of the FIM it wouldn’t have surprised me. Remember when the minimum weight requirement “leveled the playing field”? No? Just like the elimination of stop and hop “leveled the playing field”. Both made it much more affordable and greatly increased participation. Except they didn’t.
December 29, 20223 yr Believe it or not.... Sammy Miller had advocated for many years for a narrower, harder compound spec tire for world trials.
December 29, 20223 yr Seems to me like a good way to create a handicap TBH, tyres are already heavily restricted, there's not that much difference in restricting them more! The weight restriction does help too, IMO, because at least now you can buy a good used bike from anywhere in the last 20 years or so and it can be pretty competitive, without it anyone without a titanium frame and magnesium engine that cost 20K or more would be left behind.
