Yamaha TY80 rebuild - selector drum question !

I have rebuilt my sons TY80 after the output shaft sheared.

New shaft fitted and on with rebuild.

I have 1 thing am not 100% sure on .

Does the selector drum have to be in a certain position before putting the rest of build together ?? i presume it should be in neutral as i stripped it in neutral if correct but am not sure .

please see last to pictures with different positions

any advice would be much appreciated.
