August 3, 20242 yr Hi all, I just picked up this 79 Bultaco 350, I think it’s a 199a, frame and engine number match, JB 19909070, wondering if number provides any useful info? The bike is in the US. thanks Matt
August 4, 20242 yr The frame stamping is for model 199 not model 199A. The bike in the photo does resemble a 199A but may be a modified 199.
August 4, 20242 yr + 1 re feetupfun's comments. However.............the info. I have is that 199A series started at serial #19905965 - if this is correct then it should be a 199A. Is there an 'A' stamped on the engine ? Edited August 4, 20242 yr by lorenzo
August 4, 20242 yr my 199A has an A stamped at the end of the serial number on both the frame and motor
August 4, 20242 yr Author Thanks for comments. The engine number is exactly the same, no “a” present. The bike runs and rides really well, love the bike but now, with the comments in here, I’m really interest in its history!
August 5, 20242 yr Author I take it back, when I got back home I took a closer look at the engine number and there does appear to be an “A” after the number
August 6, 20242 yr It definitely looks like a !99A frame. The stamping of numbers on the frames can be pretty random, but after the numbers there is a horizontal stroke and then the A, the same as the engine. It could be faint and hidden by the undercoat and paint.
August 7, 20242 yr mattbradders - I have two matching numbers Bultacos (earlier) mod. 199. There is no dash / horizontal stroke after the serial nos. of frame and engine stampings on either machine ; the dash after the frame serial no. in the steering head pic of your bike convinces me that there is (or at least there was intended to be) an 'A' following.
