February 12, 200422 yr Has anybody had problems with the floats in the bowl of the standard Sherco carburettors. I have a 2002 290 and have repaired unsuccessfully two no. pinholes in the float body. The result is a carburettor/engine that does not pull ihard in half to full throttle and feels as if it is overchoked!!! Can you get replacement floats and is this a design defect on behalf of the manufacturers!!!!
February 12, 200422 yr I've actually read somewhere about "leaky floats" on DelOrtos. Think it was John Studleys tech stuff at GasGas USA. Either way, as Dabster indicated, you'll simply need to replace them. I'd think a pretty cheap part.
February 13, 200422 yr Got an 02 290.Had it from new and never had any problems with floats or carb.but i do strip down the carb every 4 to 5 weeks and clean it out with plenty carb cleaner. Great bike, gonna get a new 05 in sept when ive saved me pennies up
February 13, 200422 yr I've probably dropped a hundred floats in a can of cleaning fluid, to see how they float. I do it every time I strip a carb. Every so often one doesn't float as high as it should. Ususlly old ones, though. It comes with the turf. Get a new one. In a pinch, you can put some epoxy or tank sealer on them, but it adds weight and can be tricky.
