June 18, 200620 yr Hello guys, I just bought a used Scorpa SY250 but the suspension (damping) is set a bit light for me. I started to try to adjust it but couldn't figure out which way to turn the adjusters or 'where to start' and how to keep the balance, for example in the front fork, of compression and rebound adjustments. Similar in the rear shock, there is a screw but can I turn it in (or out) completely to start counting? I can't feel clicks. So, without guidance I'm lost and the owner's manual I got, doesn't mention the suspension settings. Can somebody help me out? Which is the base setting, and how can I get to that if I don't know what the current setting is? Thanks in advance, Sven
June 19, 200620 yr Rear shock has no "clicks" . Long bladed fine screwdriver through access hole in rear fender at front of fender near mounting screw. Clockwise for harder - Anti for softer. What's the use of a base setting? are you 45kg clubman or 90kg expert. Get on it, ride it, adjust it, play with it, find what's right for you. Interesting point, BUT... the real purpose of forums such as this is to glean the knowlege and experience of others who might have already been there and done that. This can be invaluable when there's no "official" documentation or where what documentation does exist is less than clear and can help avoid potentially expensive mistakes! Case in point: I've just bought a new Beta Rev3 (sorry) and the English section of the owner's manual appears to be a very poor translation from the original Italian. Out of interest I've just read the section on suspension setup and I can see how someone who's unfamiliar with the basic concepts of precompression and damping might be confused. For example, from the section on fork setup: "For a more controlled "slower" suspension setting, preload spring for about 4-5 turns on the adjusting screw and turning the knob by 15 clicks from the fully opened position, which is in the middle of the adjustement (sic)" If you know how suspension works (in which case you'd probably never read this section of the manual anyway), you'll understand what this is trying to say. If you don't, it's easy to see how this might make no sense at all.
June 21, 200620 yr Well said Neon. Don't know who you are Ned Kelly but you've only just joined the forums, coming out with harsh and aggressive statements like that is not the way to go.
June 22, 200620 yr What i was trying to say was, that there is lots of information about for lots of other bikesports suspension wise etc, i am certainly not lazy when it comes to my bike! i have two young children to take into consideration on a weekend and of course the wife to keep happy so i only ride once every other week!!
