  1. Hello Sticky. Thanks for the response and apologies for delay - away for the weekend. It is an 8E engine and the hubs are full width ones by the British Hub Company. I was interested to see that you had a Tandon at one time. I too had one back in 1968 and searched in vain recently for another, purely for nostalgic reasons. That is how I discovered the James which was beyond realistic restoration and hence will be converted to trials use. Chris
  2. Hello readers. I am building a pre-65 James trials bike, converting a 1955 Captain to Commando spec. I need some information about the optimum size for the rear sprocket as I don't want to buy more than one if I can help it. At the moment I have the standard clutch and engine sprocket with a 17 tooth 420 size gearbox sprocket. The rear wheel sprocket is 46 tooth 420 which gives road ratio. Clearly this is too high for trials use so does anyone have recommendations? I would prefer to change just the rear sprocket if possible but all offers of advice will be appreciated. Post here or feel free to use my email address christopher.turner at tiscali.co.uk replacing the at with @. Many thanks.
  3. Hi Sorry for delay, just read your post. I built a trials Bantam recently and came across exactly the issues you are asking about. You can take a look at the blog I wrote about it here http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/f1racing/bantam.htm In short, you just need a Tiger Cub swinging arm (try Greystoke Engineering) as these are a bit wider, but are a straight fit for the Bantam frame. As for forks, virtually any can be made to fit. If look at the blog I wrote, you can see how straightforward it is to convert almost any. With the plethora of off roaders now finding their way into the breakers yards, you will be spoiled for choice. If you get one complete with a 21" front wheel most of the problem will be solved for you.
  4. I am intending to build a Bantam trials bike from bits which are beyond any hope of restoration for road use. I have a frame and swinging arm already. Any tips would be appreciated but most importantly, what frame mods are essential. and which are advisory. Also, what are the options for front forks? I am no purist so all suggestions are welcome. I have heard that some Yamaha ones would fit, and more common than say, C15 ones, but am throwing myself at your mercy to advise.
  5. Chris Turner. New to the sport having just retired from F1 Sidecar Road Racing. Four times championship winner looking to build a Bantam twinshock to keep my Gold Star company in the garage.
