General Trials Talk

General discussion on the sport of Observed Motorcycle Trials

  1. Started by raygrilli,

I have an old Aprilia 50cc trials bike from the early 80s that I need to find a rear tyre for. The bike has been in Italy for the last 25years - we used to ride it whist on holidays there - and I'm bringing it over to England to give it the maintenance it has long been needing. The original tyre was removed a few years ago because it split and is now lost, so I don't know the size of it. The tyre fitted at the moment is a 3.00-18 trail type tyre which is rubbish, so I need to find a new tyre for the bike. I've had a search and can't seem to find any details about tyres that aren't 4.00-18, as fitted to adult sized bikes, but I think these will be too wide to fit within …

I had a lightbulb moment of nicking my sons lovely paioli forks off his Beta 80 for a pre 65 project, thinking they were 35mm. No they are 38mm. Doh! The question is are there 35mm Paioli's available and if so what were they fitted to, so i can start searching the E

We were in a bit of a lockdown clear out at home today and I came across a load of old trials results. This is a Berko one from February 1983. A really good nostalgic read if you’re from this centre. And some well known riders. I got a darts score

I am rebuilding a honda tlr200 for trials. On this model it has the header pipe that goes to an expansion chamber box and then to the muffler/spark arrestor. I found some rust holes in the expansion chamber and can see the baffles inside, which are pretty rusty. My question is if i open up the expansion chamber box and remove the baffles will this affect the performance in a good or bad way? Also i am thinking of removing the stock spark arrestor/ muffler and install a more free flowing muffler.

Evening all, Just trawling the internet looking at new and new/used bikes and getting a bit bewildered (it’s not difficult!) As I am now a seasoned rider (!) of some four months I want to upgrade my bike so I just thought I’d share this and see if anyone has any interesting input. I bought a Rev3 250 to get going and see if I liked it but I’m hooked and I’d like something newer really. I’d also quite like a 4 stroke, no real reason I just like the sound of them and I like the idea of low end low rev grunt, I always liked that in other bikes I’ve had. And hopefully they’re a bit quieter for practicing at home. If I haven’t missed anything, I think that means…

I have a set of 40mm Marzhocchi forks on my bike (non-stock). It requires the ‘pin’ type wrench to remove the caps. Anyone know where to source one? Mark

Has anybody had any performance issues susing the E10 fuel? My bike seems to lack the power it has when on e5 and also ticks over slot higher than normal? I've turned down the rev nut but it's still high and if I turn down anymore it won't start. Just curious if anybody else is having the same issues

Just in case someone is waiting for a 43 tooth rear to be available for the new 4RT like I was last week, the new Gas Gas rear sprockets will fit perfectly. It seems they're more available and in more configurations. I went with the 44 tooth and am pleased. First is as slow as I wanted and now 2nd is more versatile.

Can someone in the States or in Europe tell me how one would go about getting the fenders and/or graphics to make a Montesa 4RT look like a Honda 4RT? Is that what they're even called in Japan? Or are they RTL's or something? Thanks

As I've now got my son into trial I fancy a bike to ride. I'm disabled with a arm injury & I'm looking for riders experiences with the montesa 4rt. I'm a tall lad & I'm not looking to compete, I darent as my injury is severe, I do however want to have a bike to ride around, climb some hills & just have a bit of fun with my son. I gave up trials as I was far to busy racing speedway & I had a late 90s model gasgas. The 4rt had just arrived & saw Douggie on it, i just thought it was a superb bike & I kind of have my heart set on one. How do they compare to the 2 strokes? Does a 2 stroke bike have advantages apart from weight. I can't…
