July 1, 200620 yr I am rebuilding a honda tlr200 for trials. On this model it has the header pipe that goes to an expansion chamber box and then to the muffler/spark arrestor. I found some rust holes in the expansion chamber and can see the baffles inside, which are pretty rusty. My question is if i open up the expansion chamber box and remove the baffles will this affect the performance in a good or bad way? Also i am thinking of removing the stock spark arrestor/ muffler and install a more free flowing muffler.
July 1, 200620 yr Keep the front pipe and replace the rest of the system with a WES system, a lot lighter and free flowing. Wes can be contacted on 01874 623030.
July 1, 200620 yr A local rider did as you suggested and removed the baffels in the box on a US Reflex model. The odd part is that he did not notice a difference in sound or performance
July 2, 200620 yr Author Thanks for the replys. i suppose ill try to remove the baffles in the box. I see exhaust systems for sale like the wes but are expensive. Is there any reason i cant use a after market muffler for say a xr200 instead of the rectangular box types? Thanks
