General Trials Talk

General discussion on the sport of Observed Motorcycle Trials

  1. Guys Just courious , what would happen if you swopped your VM26 Mikuni for a slightly bigger VM28 Mikuni carb ? Cheers Greg Reason for question I can buy a 28 for a lot cheaper than a 26 ... and then jet to suit !

  2. Started by sweersz,

Have any of you been in high rev situations while in gear as your bike is running out of gas? Any stories and/or crashes? When my bike runs out of gas, it revs like crazy for about 20 seconds (it's horrible for everything, now I know that it sucks up more gas than I thought it did). Is it possible that I have an air leak since the revs last this long? What has been your experience(s) regarding lean fuel conditions?

  3. Having not ridden regularly in trials for the past 20 years I was wondering what people’s thoughts are on when and what the biggest changes in bike design/technology have been? I continued to follow the sport so I’ve seen the bikes change but having not ridden them I have no idea of what impact these changes have actually made to the way the bikes ride. During one of my odd rides a few years ago I was talking to the dad of one of the guys I started riding with and he commented about how much better the bikes were, easier to ride and easier to do more on. I’ve read a lot of the posts on here about which bikes of various ages is best etc which are very interesting but I…

Let's start by all pointing and laughing at me- never has one motorbike caused me so much stress and made me so mechanically inept* My 2013 ST 300 Sherco (yes, it's me again) was getting a stuck carb float every single ride. Free it with a tap, then carry on for an hour. Deciding to try and cure this issue I did some research, I spoke to Splatshop and this was the agreed plan: Change the inline fuel filter, disassemble the fuel pump to clean it, clean out the tank, clean out the carb, replace the float valve, check the bore where the float valve sits and ensure the floats aren't catching. So tank checked. No dirt. Fiddly fuel pump checked and reass…

  5. Hi, I introduced myself a couple of weeks ago with the intention of buying an Electric Motion. I instead bought a 260 4rt - new, from Inch Perfect trials after a days training on an intermediate course. so, what have I learned? 1, trials is a fascinating, addictive activity but is extremely tiring for the over 55, 2 stone overweight, deskbound out of shape operative! 2. Trials is relatively safe but it can bite. A lady on my course was airlifted from Inch perfect with snapped tib and fib! Ouch, freak accident, not on a section, hope she recovers well. 3. Stationary balancing is very hard, hopping the front harder and the rear harder still. How do they do it…

This shot was taken after one of Steve's trials schools at Top Farm practice area near Broadway recently. What do you think he was thinking? Marks out of 10 for the funniest reply.

i realise there can be no straight forward answer exactly to my question, but i am looking to venture onto a newish trials bike after riding mostly old bikes like my Honda TLR200. I am looking to purchase a near new 2nd hand bike and am looking to purchase the bike on its quality and durability, i realise that you can not really directly pitch 4 st againt 2 st in terms of what is better but i have only ever owned 4 stroke trials bikes that some might consider antiquated today & of course they are in direct comparison with modern bikes. I would like to know really how bad is maintainance (Re rebores etc...) on the average modern 2 stroke compaired to say that of the Mo…

Please forgive the very poor photo (and skill) but this is a photo of my very first bike and I am trying to identify what it is and more importantly see if i can find one anywhere to buy! I bought it in 1976 and it had a Sachs 125 engine. If there is anybody out there that can help me I would be very grateful. Thanks Dave My first bike

hey all starting to get a bit annoyed with the amount of posts saying how major championship sections consist of to many big steps. Hearing these have made me think - what is trials. It is all about crossing the most difficuilt terrain and keeping utmost control over the motorcycle. Doesn't big steps fit under one of them category's. Trying to make less of them would remove something from the sport. Another point is why have none stop rules. Isn't balancing the most important part of trials? to be able to balance on a bike is a key factor though riders are not aloud to do so in a section. How about setting an easyly achieved time limit in each section. just saying my …
