General Trials Talk

I have an aprillia climber the green and white tank and water cooled with disc brakes. It will start and run but shows a distinct lack of power uphill then after about 30 - 40 minutes it cuts out and refuses to start again. I've stripped and cleaned carb. and it has a big fat spark i've changed the plug too. I've not had anything to do with aprillias and no one rides one in our centre so any help/suggestions would be appreciated

My brother has a 1990 or so 240 climber. Whats the trick to pulling the clutch basket. It does not appear to be like a jap dirtbike where you can use a tool to hold the basket from spinning. The nut spins along with the plates inside the basket. How do you keep the motor from spinning so you can break the nut loose. btw is it a normal thread or reverse thread?

On behalf of a friend who has an Aprillia TXT ? early air cooled mono-shock with a Rotax based engine. How much of what type of oil should there be in the transmission.

can any one point me in the direction of an on-line dealer for arai trials helmets?

Several folk have been asking me about the classic trials in France ( classic as in; modern bikes ,multi day single lap/day)..just to say that The 3 days of Ardeche entries opened yesterday and were oversubscribed within 2 hours. entries accepted on first come first served basis so moral of this story is you need to make your mind up and act early to get a ride. I think Janet & I are the only Brits agaian this year but we hope to see plenty of compatriots at Geuret in June.

Hi, Of course trials is down to good technique but well set up suspension and bike lightness must help? 125mx bikes and 125 enduros come set up for lighter riders. Is it the same with trials bikes? Im 65KG. Thanks

Quick question, are 2 stroke trials bikes generally pre-mixed fuel? Or do they have a seperate oil pump ala road going 2 stroke bike engines? Cheers Si

Are the older bikes more reliable and better made than the newer bikes. As my 2011 sherco seems to be always letting me down when compared to my previous bikes montesa 315r and sherco 2004 200 (which had piston slap). For example I never really greased the suspension on them and they seemed to last longer. On my current bike i seem to be spending more time working on it than i do riding it. It just seems to be one thing after another.

I have a 2009 Gas Gas Raga Replica 300 and it has this Sachs rear shock that is "non-rebuildable." I would like to replace it, but Trials bike parts are not always so easy to find in the USA. Trying to find a replacement shock has frightened me, as I want to buy a new one, but they are expensive and I do not want to buy the wrong new one. Am I over thinking this? Can I buy any shock for a Trials bike and slap it on the ole' Raga? Or do I have to ensure I find one with the exact length eye to eye, and exact diameter of "eyes" at each end specific to the 2009 Raga, and if that is the case where can i find that?

I thing that old bikes are good because my dad has a Bsa Bantam 175 and hec beats the modern stuff so they are the answer to winning so go out there a and get a old bike.

Hi all, ive got a gas gas txt contact 1999 and just started trials as a beginner. Are the older bikes that much heavier than say a 2005 year bike, the new bikes seem very slim, can they make much difference when you want to hop the front or rear. when you see the pros ride they make the bike look very light, would a pro be able to make an older heavier bike move like a new bike? I would like to open up a discussion on the topic of section length/difficulty for sections where a rider has a set time to complete it in. Namely the WTC & British rounds. As an observation, I accept it is difficult for the course marker to get the section length right allowing for conditions/weather to change etc, for the rider to complete all the sections elements, and get out in good time. So when the section length (in time) is too long, I find it frustrating to see good riders 'paddling' their way out to ensure they get a 3 and not a 5 and not riding the section as the CoC intended. I remember seeing this on the internet a while ago. I think it was USA designed and built, but havent heard anything after about it since. If I remember rightly, it was designed as a pit bike toy rather than a kids bike Anyone know if they are available to buy anywhere ? It looks good and could be something to try for my eldest

Probably a very dumb question, but I really have nothing to compare it to since I am new to this. But noticed when I go for a trail ride (to get to my destination) its very uncomfortable and very hunched forward; it is an older trials but perhaps something I need to get used to? or are there trials with a more "enduro" erogonmic type of stance, if that makes sense? Yesterday when I went out to practice on very rocky terrain, i had a lot of pressure on my arms and wrist and lower back due to being hunched forward; again I am new to trials so just trying to fi gure it all out. The whole inspiration for this question came about a couple of days ago when here in Michigan we got our first "real"winter storm. There were a large amount of reports in local media of cars going off the road and getting into accidents. I am thinking that trials riders have a better understanding of traction and throttle control than non-trials riders, so the assumption is that we would be better drivers. Disclaimer: This is a broad generalization and I am not saying that a non-trials rider could not be a good driver. Also obviously the last 2 options are meant for humor.
