This is my first resto, and I'm trying to get it to highest standard I ca, Many, Many new old stock parts have been used, int bash plate, rear under guard plate, etc, etc. Most small parts are available from CMSNL - see link on blog page. Just purchased Montesa Cota 200 with engine/frame number 29M02572. I'd appreciate any help in finding out year of manufacture and what the actual numbers/letter(s) mean. Many thanks in advance.

I've got my first trials bike, and I'm looking forward to falling off it. My last bike was a Honda Africa Twin, which weighed well over three times as much as the Beta! There seem to be a few trials clubs near me Worthing, Bognor, Horsham, Reigate so should manage to get to a few events. I feel that I really need a nice flat field to start with though

Hi I'm an ex Midland Centre rider from the 60's and 70's disappearing to Australia in 1980. Still riding in trials although I've slowed down a bit after a hip replacement a few weeks ago. I heard a name mentioned the other day on this website (I think) and would love to hear from him and a few others who were around in those days. As the Galpin brothers, Mike and Roger we used to ride BSA's with the Slinn brothers and the Winwood brothers and it was Pat Slinn who was mentined. My dad, Eric, used to know Reg Slinn and whatever happened to Alan Wright, Scott Ellis, Mick Bowers, Dick Hearn, Pat Brittain and a host of other top Midland centre riders. Chris Leighfield is o…

  10. Hi All! I'm very glad to have found this forum I've tried my hand at a "fun" trial with Mortimer Classic MCC 2 weeks ago, on a KTM 300 EXC, and despite being on the wrong machinery I have never enjoyed myself on a motorcycle so much! 😄 So much so, that I ended up selling one of my other bikes to find the funds for a Gas Gas TXT 250. I'm now in the process of finding more opportunities to ride the GG, so that I can get out of the house and have some fun on the weekends. I'm based between Reading and Basingstoke. Any recommendations for clubs that allow practice trials in the South of England? Many thanks! Michel

  11. Hi, I am looking for advice on this ignition system. The bike was running great and then died. I have good compression and air/fuel. I have no spark. New spark plug. Checked plug wire and boot - 5000 ohms - good. Stator has 1 yellow wire coming from it. I get 10 volts AC from the stator when spinning engine with a drill. The regulator/rectifier outputs 9 to 10 volts DC and the rad fan runs when I spin the engine with the drill. No spark when I spin with the drill. I am guessing the above suggests low voltage so maybe a bad stator - should I have 12 volts DC or maybe 14 or more like a car?. Note that there is no battery or charging…

Hello every one, just joined the forum and want to say Hi, I have just bought a 1979 Montesa Cota 247 and i am attempting to relive my youth at 51 years of age. The bike is stripped down for restoration as i type this, it was complete and running lovely when i picked it up last week. The frame, swing arm and side stand are ready to go to the powder coaters and the shopping list for new parts will start next week when i return from holiday. I am looking forward to getting involved in the forum and hope to pick up useful information and tips regarding the bike and getting back to riding trials after a 30 year lay off. Cheers John.

Hello everyone, thought I'd sign up as I'm just in the process of getting back into trials after a long break. I've bought a 2008 Gas Gas Raga which I'm getting next weekend which is pretty exciting! Used to ride a lot of trials in the late 1990s, mostly on Beta Technos, those were great bikes but they've come on a bit eh?! The new gas gas pretty much balances itself! Are these legal in clubman trials?!?! This looks to be a great forum, loads of info and knowledge. Really looking forward to getting back into the sport. Cheers Mike

Looking to get back into it, not sure what bike to get as they have changed so much but look like they are much better due to being a lot lighter. Any recommendations...? Thanks chip

hi i treated myself to (in fact got my wife to buy me ) a new ossa explorer for my 50th - overall i think it is a great concept but i have had various niggles - more importantly the gearbox has just packed up - it would seem this is not an unknown issue but understandably one that is not publicized by ossa , national importers or local dealers?! where should i go in the forums to join a discussion of this or to start a new discussion? for those that are interested i am a crap rider (hence the topic title) with 1 years experience of trials and 2 years off road experience who is mechanically quite capable
