I just came back to trials this year and it has revolutionized my 2-wheeled life. I goofed around on a TY175 in 1976, but my real passion at the time was MX. Then I had a TY250A in the mid-1980's, but I was on a tiny isolated shelf of land in coastal B.C. with little opportunity to improve my riding. After a brief break from riding of any kind, I got back to road riding in 1988 and I've been doing that ever since. Although my wife and I have traveled by bike in several European countries and South America, our road riding is a bit stunted where we live. We are on a peninsula with a ferry at each end, so we really just have one road to ride. So a friend is into trials ridi…

Hello all, Im new to the world of Trial bikes and just picked up a seized and abused TY250A last week as a project and finally got the cylinder off the engine last night. So much for a quick lick o’ paint and a carb clean, this thing is going to need a lot of parts and labor. Anyway I’m sure I’ll be asking questions and needing help along the way so thanks in advance and talk soon aidan

I bit the bullet and purchased a new Montesa Repsol a few weeks ago, not been out on it yet due to the lock down but can't wait to get out there, I have been riding a Beta 250 Rev 3 2004 model for about 4 years, great bike but but fancied a 4 stroke ( Montesa), heard a lot of talk about reducing the front sprocket by one tooth, changing the exhaust system to make the engine breath better, not sure what that means or if the high price tag warrants my fairly low skills, also the air filter, on my Beta I used Putoline air filter cleaner and oil, can I use this on the Montesa. Also the dealer has inserted a note in the owners manual, first service due in one month or 600 mi…

Hi All. I purchased a 2006 TXT Pro 300 5 years ago but never really used it much as I don't know any other trials riders locally. Plus I was into track racing so hadn't the time really. Now I'm rebuilding the bike as it hasn't had much TLC from me or its previous owner by the looks of it. When it's all done I hope to put more effort into learning to ride properly!

I'm only looking to spend around £2000 , for that price what bike would you guys recommend ? Are there any bikes that are noticeably better or worse than the rest ? Hi all. Well, at the age of 57 I finally get the opportunity to have a bash in the world of trials! (I think). Always been fascinated by the sport and love everything to do with off-road. I’ve been a road rider for 40 years and have only limited off-road experience with 2 sessions at Mick Extances enduro school in Wales and one go at ‘Trials Day’ which I thoroughly enjoyed. I’ve always wanted a trials bike but could never really decide how to make it work for me. I don’t have a garage or workshop so the maintenance side would be tricky (and a faff), plus, I never knew anywhere I could ride or practice so always put a purchase off. I’ve since however discovered th…

Hi everyone, Ello here, recently got myself a 02 beta Rev 3 250 that’s in need of a bit of TLC. Luckily it’s mostly cosmetic so it’s gonna be a tinker on the evenings and ride on the weekends project. Anyways, I’m gonna head over to the Beta section and start bugging everyone with questions now

Hey up, Another newbie here. Looking for advice on a TY250 twin shock rebuild. Its a Colin Appleyard special, on an 85 plate. My Dad bought this new then handed to me, rode it around a few times then went into storage for a good 15 years. Has been a chuff to start over the past 15 years and smoked heavily when eventually started. Suspected a crank seal or two. Recently started the strip down and found the seals to be completely knackered. Hoping to get this all sorted and ready for my lad to enjoy in the future. We like doing stop motions so did one of the carb, and a time lapse of the strip down which can bee viewed on youtube in the links. I have m…

Hi, I'm just starting the journey in to Trials after many years Road and Enduro riding and have just bought a 2002 Beta 250 (see attached) to practice wobbling and balancing on my driveway before going out and getting muddy. I was looking for a 200 Beta but theyre not cheap and as rare as Rocking Horse S**t then I was offered this for £1k and it seems to tick all of the boxes for now. I see the bike as a stepping stone to something a bit newer once I can progress beyond the garden. As I have no paperwork with the bike, does anyone have a manual for sale or can you point me in the right direction to download one? - I've looked on the Beta web-site and they dont go thi…

Hi I am new to this forum and I would like to give a brief introduction. My name is Richard and I am from Sheffield, South Yorkshire, over the years I have had many bikes and restored quite a few mainly classic 2 strokes. Any how i have just acquired my first trial bike, and I am trying to identify the correct model and year of the bike. I think its a Montesa Cota 200 but I am not sure. The Frame number is 29 M02504, and the engine number is 28H00420, does this seem correct. many thanks in advance for any info you can give me. Regards Richard.

Hi all, I am not completely new to trials (had two in the past) but new to the forum and new to classic trials. Just bought a Bultaco Sherpa T350 from 1978. I own a lot of motorcycles and it’s save to say that I am proper motorcycle and mechanical stuff nut. Born already 49 years ago do I still feel best when wrenching or riding. I had done and still do almost everything which can be done on two wheels, from crossing the Sahara, to proper hard enduro, race track, bit of trials, travelling or just bashing around. Wherever possible I prefer older stuff over the new, on bikes but even more on cars and all the other small wonders of life. Raoul
