  1. Cheers Jon, I think I've got some 15 weight oil so I'll get the seals ordered and get it done. Slowly getting this trials iron how I want it
  2. My seals are crying, leaving puddles were they sit I noticed this fact a few weeks back and they arn't getting any better despite my best efforts with cleaning out the oil seals useing a feeler blade. Don't suppose useing it for the Witley Boxing day enduro helped much either:xmas: Guess I'll be changing the seals then, what weight oil do you guys and girls run in these?
  3. Cheers Jon, sounds about right to me. I'll get the seals ordered and check what oil I have in the garage.
  4. Grinder or file for the toolbox whilst out and about
  5. Where's your oil leaking from? We have a few of these at work and the only problem I've encountered is that people twist the letting down screw all the way out and they lose fluid I'm all out of hydralic oil so have been using brake fluid to re-fill them
  6. So, my TY250R has a leaky seepy issue with the front forks I've some fork seals in my ebay watch list and just need to know the air gap when I re fill the forks with fresh oil? Also what oil do you learned peoples use in your ty forks? All help much appreciated as I've been cleaning out the seals with a feeler blade which works well for a while though it seems the seals are past their oil holding best.
  7. Cheers all. I've been out on the TY and still had a lesser issue with fouling so took the pipe off and gave it a clean. All now running sweet, just needs a new throttle cable now, and fork seals, and front shoes, and chain and sprokets.
  8. For some strange reason my shody laptop ain't letteing me open the links. Just for the record though I think mongrel bikes are always a bit special especially when well thought out but even the bodged ones raise a smile. It's not all about standard spec for me and many others who are hard up too. We've just mounted a dt175 mx lump in a little Yam RT100 chasis
  9. Many thanks all, good advice greatfully received. I've thinned out the mix to 50:1 Not had time to get out on it since though it starts and runs fine. The exhaust is leaking the black stuff as would be expected and may need cleaning though I'll only do it if I really need to as the list of mechanical jobs on the various vehicles I own is mounting high at the minute.
  10. Eggy at K+S Racing has rebuilt unrebuildable shocks for us in the past. May be worth a call if you ain't got it sorted allready.
  11. I've been running my ty on 25-1 since I got it though the last 2 times out it has taken a while to run right. Today it was a pig and I spent a whole bunch of time fannying about with plugs which leads me to beleive the mix I'm running is too rich. I know many modern trials bikes run leaner though am unsure what I should be putting in this. What do you guys and girls run them on?
  12. Now I may well be wrong as I've not taken mine apart... yet. Never the less 'normal' Yamaha doings is such that you can adjust a 10mm (ish) nut on the end of the push rod in the centre of the clutch. Often you can hold the push rod steady with a cross head screwdriver. Be warned though little adjustments make a big differance. Even if the above is not the case on your ty you can see the condition of the clutch whilst your there
  13. Thanks for the welcome and cheers for the tip. I've always just run them loose though after a while they do start to 'hang' somewhat. The PTFE should sort that, nice one.
  14. I spoke to my local trials guru today and was told that these shocks are *untakeapartable*. This seems a bit strange as they 'look' like quite an advanced unit what with the remote resi and range of adjustment. Oh well, none on ebay at the mo and I want to ride it tomorrow so am in the process of modding a Yamaha TTR shock which is now fitted and just needs pre loading up to suit. *non word alert
  15. I'll expand a bit here so y'all know the why's and what for. I recently gave my ty250r it's first wash in my ownership after riding it 4-5 times. I'd noticed a squeek from the backend and was thinking of dry linkages needing a re grease. What I found though was quite horrific, (gotta love secondhand old bikes) the rear spring had snapped near the top and had previously been welded I have a suitable looking replacement (not really wanting to redo the weld tbh) and just need to get that shock apart to fit it. Any help much appreciated, this is the only thing stopping me being out on the bike.
