  1. Yeah, the WD40 I used was squirting more of a liquid than a gas that might get picked up by a small air leak. I'll pop the inlet rubber off next and give it a good going over, and then I can check the reed valve at the same time. My Dad seems to think the crank seals could be at fault. I guess it's possible, I've not used it enough to notice it using any gearbox oil. Gaz
  2. Y It exhibited this before I stripped the carb, and has run like this ever since I've had the bike running. I'm quite an accomplished spannerer so I'm happy the carb is assembled properly. The carb slide is moving freely and returns back to its stop nicely. I don't think its a cable issue. I haven't checked the reed valve yet, ill do that! I would also expect its an air leak, between carb and cylinder but spraying wd40 around with the engine running didn't highlight anything. Do you guys think a poorly sealing reed valve could exhibit this problem? I really appreciate the input Gaz
  3. So I got my TXT 250 with an overheating problem, this was narrowed down to a shot head O ring. So I've replaced the O rings, and got a new head. But now when I start the bike it'll only start from cold with full choke, and the revs will shoot to maximum, I can knock the choke off and keep it running with tiny throttle inputs. But if I rev the bike at all, the revs shoot right up and take AGES to settle back down. And the bike won't idle. I've had the carb apart, all jets clean, and the choke plunger moves freely. I did a compression test, 130psi I sprayed WD40 along the inlet track to try and highlight any air leaks, but none found. Anyone got any ideas of what to check? Gaz
  4. So I've bought a second hand head, just need to get the O rings. Where's a good place to get them online? Gaz
  5. Thanks for that guys, The trouble with this bike is it's a complete unknown quantity to me, I've got it with the head removed, so it's very difficult for me to check on any of those things. I'm told its had a brand new water pump recently, I will inspect the head and old O ring a bit more closely to see if there's any obvious leakage. Luckily heads don't look to be too expensive, there's one on eBay at the moment that looks like it'll be less than
  6. Hi guys, I just aquired a 2001 TXT 250, the history of it is pretty much unknown. But apparently it was overheating. I would often look to the head gasket on any mysteriously overheating vehicle. But in this case, with the O ring'd head I guess it would be more difficult to 'blow' an O ring? I would look to get the head skimmed, but any material removed will only take space away from the head that's required for the O ring to sit in. So I'm looking to get a new head. My question is, do you guys think it's likely that the head/gasket is the problem? Or should I be looking elsewhere before I spend the money. Also is it acceptable to reuse the O rings or should I always buy new like you would do with a gasket? Thanks Gaz
