  1. Bike to TrialsUK, Leeds. Call back in a couple of hours to say they had cleaned it up and sorted out the carb. Now running again! Although this experience has lead me towards forking out a bit of money on a newer more reliable bike!
  2. I've seen this too, but the bike ran for a short time with the stator back in it. Hopefully the pros can find the fault, and I'll be negotiating a refund if the stator is at fault!
  3. Update: carb blasted thoroughly, bike kicked up and ran for about 30 seconds, then back to square one! I quit. Bike going to local trials garage to get fixed and have my pants down! Will update with the problem once fixed...
  4. Reeds checked, all fine, in quite good condition compared to the rest of the bike! Floats checked, and they're floating nicely. Carb to friends workshop tomorrow for a good blasting out with compressed air. New fuel line filter and fresh mix of petrol to go in before starting her up. If that doesn't work, I'll have to surrender and pay a pro to sort it out...
  5. Dan- I havnt had compressed air through the carb- will do this tonight. I'll have a look at the reeds also, but im not too sure what i should be looking for with them! Compression doesn't seem to be lacking. Joe- the bike had a new batch in when it died first time, of 80:1. And it went on this before I started fiddling with thumbscrew on carb. But I'll replace this just to rule it out completely, it's been in the bike about a month. What should the thumbscrew and airscrew be set to once carb is cleaned out? 250cc rev3 2003 mikuni carb. Thanks for the advice guys, I'll let you know how it goes!
  6. From one problem to another! Bike ran fine, no issues- stator went, and has now been repaired with a healthy spark at the plug. Timing has been set to as it was before the stator death. I had the bike out the other day and it kicked up first time, rode it around 500 metres and it wouldn't tickover idle. I had a fiddle with the carb thumbscrew and the bike died. I have cleaned the carb with no joy. Now, when I unscrew the plug at the bottom of the carb, releasing all the petrol, pull out the spark plug and give it a wipe, the bike kicks up momentarily with the petrol off. Switch the petrol on and it cuts out. If the petrol is on from the start it doesn't kick up at all. I've set the carb up as per Billy T's mod. Still no joy. The spark plug is getting fuel to it as it is slightly wet. When I empty the carb, plenty of fuel drops out. The fuel mix is 80:1, and the bike ran fine on this before stator went. On a separate note, anyone want to buy a 2003 beta? Good runner.... Honest....
  7. I spent days reading all the topics on beta forums and you seem to know just about everything dan! Good news is stator is working, I have spark at the plug (after learning the importance of woodruff keys and flywheel positioning). Bad news is I took the bike out, rode fine for ten minutes but then wouldn't tick over when idle. Had a fiddle with the thumbscrew on the carb and now it won't kick up. Changed thumbscrew back, still no joy. Took carb apart and gave it a clean with carb spray. Still nothing. Don't suppose anyone can help with the carb set up details? How far the air screw and thumbscrew should be adjusted? And on a side note- what is pinking??
  8. West country windings diagnosed the fault, repaired for under
  9. The tabs are better than my stock plates but still a bit bumpy, will give them a quick blast and polish. They are caked in glue though, so will sort that too. Do you recommend roughing up the steel plates? I've seen this mentioned a lot but not on the clutch mod PDF?
  10. Motorcycle superstore don't ship to UK. I just bought some bits from BVM website, cheap and cheerful. Trialstribulations website has a good selection too.
  11. Took the plates out my bike to do this mod and found two of them were broken! Have this morning received new sureflex plates- does the mod need to be done on these? Or is this just a beta stock plate fix? Someone help asap to save me wasted hours on a weekend!!
  12. Yeah I took my coil off and stuck it on my friends and it worked fine. West country windings have said they will have a look at my stator, and if it's not the cause of the problem they will send it back for a small testing charge. From what I gather on the forum rewinding with a better wire is a better option than having a new beta part, as the same will happen with a new beta part. Thanks for the help on this- WCW have a quick turnaround so hopefully the bike will be running soon, and I can post my next problem here for you all!
  13. Is the stator something that just goes? There was no weakness or anything in the bike last time out, ran fine and then just would not start the next time out.
  14. Hello- I am new to trials, and bought a 'bike' nice and cheap, thinking I would drop/crash/ruin it learning, so I went for a cheap option, to limit my tears as my bike gets destroyed. To call it a shed is an insult to a good shed. Beta 2003 250, in a poor condition. It ran well first time out, no rear brake, fan didn't run, overheated and eventually stopped running. Took it home, new airfilter, thermostat now bypassed, oil change, brakes bled and new pads. Next time out, it ran really well apart from clutch issues (awaiting week off to start Dan William's clutch fix process). Last time out, would not kick up at all. Spark plug changed- no help. However, there is petrol getting to the plug. Just no spark! I took the coil and HT lead off my bike and tried it on my friends, which then sparked so I dont think my coil is the problem. I have been informed that leaves the stator, regulator or DCI as the cause of the problem. My question is- how do I check each of these to find which one is knackered? and do I need any specialist tools to perform these checks? Any help greatly appreciated, thank you
  15. I too kind of fell foul of this- bargain bike, bought it despite looking a little battered and bruised. Needs a few bits fixing and will end up costing me around the same as other similar age bikes in far better condition. Live and learn, and I'll learn allsorts bringing this up to scratch!
