  1. Thanks for the reply, i did think it would be worth the little bit extra that it might cost just to get the parts from gas gas, then i know there correct and as you say it will take less time and hassle. i will let you know how i get on with sourcing the bits. thanks again.
  2. Hi, ive just bought myself a gas gas txt280 2004 model, i got the bike cheap as it had an engine problem. i have stripped the engine and it needs main bearings, big end, little end and probably a piston while im in there. Just wondered where people would recommend to get the parts, are some only available from gas gas? i live in cumbria weather or not theres anywhere local thats worth trying. I was quite happy to fix the bike up over time as a bit of a project, but the more i keep looking on here the more it makes me want to get it fixed and be out on it Any help would be much appriciated.
  3. Just phoned MRS they were very helpful and said it's most likely to be a weak kickstart spring, there's one in the post and should be here tomorrow. I will keep you posted on how I get on, thanks for the help
  4. The kickstart sits fine and the spring seems nice and strong, I think even if I removed the kickstart while the bike is running it would still make the noise, might just whip the casing off and have a look when I get chance, don't know if it's possible to get the shaft in slightly wrong while the water pump seals been done, but wouldn't have thought it would have been touched
  5. thanks to the info i found on here i have got myself a 2007 290, very pleased with it. the only problem i have got is that since the water pump seal was replaced the kickstart sounds like it is still slightly engaged all of the time. if i just to say touch the kickstart pushing it towards the front of the bike the noise goes away. any ideas what could cause this? or how to fix it thanks
  6. Thats that sorted then, I better get my wallet out and go and find myself one. Thanks for everyones comments they have reassured me that the sherco seems like the right choice.
  7. Thanks for all the replies, think i might have a ratch for a 250 because i have read a few comments about the 290 having a bit much power for a beginner, am i right in thinking its better to go for a good well cared for example rather than going for the newest thing i can afford? i dont mind doing i little bit of work and maintenance myself as i own a 450 husaberg supermoto that eats main bearings, but i have read a few gearbox horror stories, are things like that fairly simple to fix?
  8. Hi, I am wanting to buy a trials bike to mainly play around on and enter the odd trial, i have done 3 or 4 trials in the past but that was about 7 years ago. I have been looking to get a 2006 290 but just wondered how reliable they are and wether or not it will bankrupt me if it does go wrong, and what the pros and cons are of these things.
