    Real Hot 290

Hi guys, my daughter rides a 290, 2001, first bike. Her first trial is the end of March so she has been training hard. The bike has been running fine but yesterday there was a slight lack of power and it was cutting out for no reason, it also got hot and the silencer was so hot that it melted the petrol pipe Checked the wiring, red wire from stator was not great at the terminal so put that right. started ok from cool, fan cut in after about 10 minutes steady riding but after half an hour it became really hot again. Packed up and went home very disappointed. Started to strip the bike down, Piston fine, rings fine, head fine. rad full, rad fins not blocked with mud, 'Stat operates at just below boiling (in a pan of water). Red and green wires from stator read just over 500 on the multi meter, (think its on the right resistance setting). Spark jumps around a bit at the plug tip, but there is a spark ! Pump impeller is turning but have not checked it further. Any help would be fantastic, thank you. ps, running at 70 to 1, plug black.
  2. Hi chaps, my recently aquired Sherco 290, 2001 is fitted with a Yellow rear shock spring and i just wonder what its rating may be and what other colour spring ratings are please. Seems to 'bottom out' when i bounce on the pegs ! I weigh 13 Stones or 82 kg's. Thank you for any help. D.
  3. Hi guys, thanks for all the help ! Fired up the soldering iron, with the air box in place, tacked the broken boss in a couple of places then waited for it to harden. Removed the air box carefully then proceeded to 'weld' all the way around. I 'pushed' the melting material from the outside of the air box and then repeated this by 'pushing material from the boss until the plastic met and melted in the centre. Took a couple of hours and it worked ! After cooling it left a very strong joint. The angle is not perfect but it works just fine, everything fits and tightens up well. Another forum victory thanks to you all. Cheers, D.
  4. Thought about a longer rubber pipe from the carb into the box then seal it. not really sure how to proceed.
  5. Thats a good idea. Think the angle may be critical though. Thanks.
  6. Picked up a cheap 2001, 290 as a project. (what was i thinking ?) Stripped it down totally and ordered new parts as required. Postman Pat has applied for planning permission near my front door ! It's not too bad at all, dont think its had a hard life more an uncared for one. Anyway, biggest problem that i have is the air box boss that connects to the carb rubber has broken away from the main air box body. Cant afford a new one and cant find a used one. Help ! Has anyone run one without the air box by using another system ?
  7. I agree ! so much fun riding when i was a kid, gallon of petrol cost almost nothing and it lasted ages. Didnt really matter what bike you had as long as you had one. What memories. Good luck on the Sherco.
