It has had a disc conversion on the front, I tightened it all up and it stopped moving by hand, but still moves back and forth when braking
took everything apart this morning, all linkages seem fine and I regreased them but when I tighten the swingarm spindle once it gets to a certain point of tightness it starts binding
ive tightened it up so much just before it starts binding, lock tighted it and went for a ride, moves more freely now but still creaks
however, every little bump and the tire is hitting the rear fender, if I sit at the back of the bike it is rubbing constantly
I just picked up this beautiful 1985 250 mono, however it’s got a couple of weird things about it
The rear is super stiff, I do not believe it has anything to do with the shock it feels like something else, it will go down a bit but not come back up
also the front caliper rocks forwards and backwards, is this normal?
It’s actually unridable atm, all the linkage bearings are newish and the swing arm I believe also
any ideas guys? Just paid £2000 for this bike, other than these points it is lovely
Sure you don`t need a 67.25 or a 67.5. Chances are a thirty year old bike could need a bore. By the way a YTZ250 piston will work.
I was looking to get it bored out to 70mm, but they say they will need a good couple of goes to take the 3mm off so it’s looking around £120, I bought the piston kit off of wemoto for £35 hoping that would be it
Try Wiseco or Wosserman Give them your original part number for your original piston. I went thru that sourcing issue with my TY 250A and finally got one that works from Wiseco. I can get you the part number if you need it.
It does sound abit choked, like as if it's not getting enough fuel to build the revvs higher
How could i check to confirm it's the coils?
Yes I literally took the exhaust off, barbecued it hah my dad showed me a little trick to burn out the inside, sounded like a jet engine when he did it
Well my ty 175 has much more power, put it that way
No dents, i burnt the exhaust out to clear the carbon build up
Also it use to have more power when i first got it im sure... I don't know what it is im even contemplating buying another one because i loved riding it when it was at full power, more than mx!
Hi, my ty 250 mono was running flat, had both my mx race bikes stolen so funds have been an issue of late but finally i took the top end apart and put in new piston rings, piston looked fine and barrel had minimal scoring
Ran in the bike today (whether i needed to or not with just the rings) it DOES have a little bit more power but It's definitely still not at full power
What could be causing the bike to run so sluggish? Could anything to do with the carb be the issue? It literally starts 1st kick
Hi, im going to rebuild my ty250 top end, i was just wondering what the recommended brand of piston etc is?
Also, my rear shock seems to have become very loose, i think the gas has blown out because i' am no longer getting any feedback from the adjustment, i was wondering what should i do? I assume i need to send it to a shop to have it 're-gased' so to speak, and a shock service... Anyone got any idea what that would cost?
I race mx every weekend and have a range of bikes, the ty is just perfect for my woods at home because of its agility and its not very noisy, plus you get it running quick its an absolutely awesome bike
It does rev up, im sure its not the clutch slipping, i have a video from yesterday i made specifically for another forum after someone asked what it sounded like maxed out... This is it maxed out
I burnt out the exhaust, cleaned anything to do with the fuel flow and air flow, still runs like crap just doesn't have that pull, gear 1 and 2 are absolutely useless there's just NO top end of the gears, on a flat i could be as fast as it will go in third, chuck it into 4th and its just got nothing, barely starts to pick up
Ive rode my friends one and it absolutely flies, insane speed
I cant think of anything else other than a total rebuild that will fix it
Well i used to ride it weekly, and over time it seemed to be getting slower and slower, my friend leaving me behind until it was so useless on the open areas i just gave up on it and started riding the ty 175
I tried small mods like a hi-flo air filter and carbon reeds, didn't help
Im just going to say im 19 and i dont really ride the ty as intended as a trials bike, i have a video on youtube wearing a gopro just messing around in the woods when i was 17 i think, it may help if you heard the engine whilst im riding to diagnose the problem easier? Thanks for the advice so far
Took the silencer completely off, ran a little quicker nothing special, i think i can remember it being abit quicker, almost keeping up with my friends, but i was young, 13-14 so i can't really remember
Hi, My ty250 has plenty of power, but only at the bottom end of the gears, as soon as i hit half revs and upwards it just doesn't gain any power at-all, which means i resort to staying in the bottom end of the gears.
At first i thought that this was obviously how the trial bike was designed, not the top end aggressive nature like a motocross bikes.
But my friend has one also, and pulls through the gears no problem. I have a ty175 also and i sometimes think that it is definitely faster than my 250, no power issues at-all.
I have changed the gearbox oil, put in a new spark plug, cleaned and checked my air filter and cleaned out my front exhaust but to no avail.
I dont want to start fiddling in-depth with the mechanics, as i know nothing about them, and i do not want to start blowing all my money on it.
Anyone know whats to blame? I race mx every weekend but i find the ty is an awesome bike to ride in my woods, not enough room for the crosser, great balance practice and keeps the muscles used for riding active

Anyone know or think that getting an aftermarket silencer may change the performance to gain top-end power? and if so which one? cheers
Also would anybody be able to confirm the year of my bike? its serial number reads 3BA-000378
Ty 250 mono help please
