  1. It’s sorted! My brother sussed it, the gear takes the drive from the kick start that fits into the bottom of the Clutch basket has 4 slots, 2 square and 2 rounded, all I had to do was rotate the gear my 90 deg and it all works fine. Still a lesson learnt and hopefully this post might help someone else who was as baffled as me.
  2. I would appreciate some help as I am having trouble getting the clutch to disengage on a TY 250 I have just brought. I am on the final stages in completing the rebuild of my 1974 TY and upon splitting the crank to replace the Mains I have come across a really bodge repair of the gear change return pin in the RH crank case. Fortunately I won a Ebay purchase for a replacement engine which has already been rebuilt it runs well but the clutch will not disengage. I thought I found it when I realized that there was an additional clutch plate installed or that there was a washer missing behind the clutch basket but realize as this is a latter engine it did not have one. I might be being incredibly thick here but surely the clutch basket and boss should turn independently but every time I tighten the main nut they lock together so the clutch is never going to work. The two trust plates (the one between the Boss and the basket & the casing & the gear that takes the kick start drive) are in place. Any help would be truly appreciated. Regards Mark
  3. I just thought that I would share the fantastic customer service I have received from Sammy Miller. I have a 1974 TY 250 which I am doing up and it requires a new seat (the existing metal pan is 100% rust.) I ordered a new one from Sammy Miller’s which when it arrived did not fit as it is for the later models which do not have a fiberglass seat surround. However, it was not a million miles out and I was sure that if I took it to bits I could modifiy it by taking off the lip and repositioning the holes. First though thought I would talk to them to see if they had a different seat. They didn’t but sent me a blank seat base which I then modified and drilled the holes and inserted Rivnuts which I also glassed in (in retrospect I should have used Sicoflex. I then sent the modified seat pan and the first new seat back, they then had it upholstered and sent it back to me for just the postage. It fits just fine and looks great I am as pleased as punch, I have added a couple of photos.
  4. Thanks for the information, it is a TY 250, looking at the new single plugged head I see there is a casting blank where the head could be drilled and tapped. Fitted the new one now with the twin plugged as spare.

    Twin Plug Head

When I brought my 1974 TY it had a twin spark plug head which I suspect is from a DT, I have now purchased the correct head from Ebay and am going to swap it out, I am just curious as to if this is a standard mod or just a one of on my bike.

    Paint Code

The tank has not come out too bad using stand colours available from Jawel; Ford Diamond White & Ford Signal Yellow, I just need the Decals so if anyone has got a photo it would be very much appreciated.

    Paint Code

Hi, Does anyone know the Paint codes for the Yellow and white on a 1974 TY 250. Also can somebody post photo of the Tank and Exhaust Decals please Thanks Mark
  8. Thanks very much for the clarification and Tony thanks for the photos. Looks like not only have I got to get the Jigsaw out but the buffing machine as well, your bike looks fantastic. Regards Mark
  9. I notice on some TY250 the left hand crankcase cover has been cut down to expose the front sprocket, I presume this is to make it easier to change the sprocket without disturbing the electrics. Two questions am I right and secondly is there an optimal position to cut the case? I have a 1974 model. Thanks for any help
  10. Thanks Guys I will be down Big M's at the weekend
  11. I have recently purchased a 1974 Yamaha TY 250 in quite good nick but requiring some TLC amongst the things to be addressed is the rubber hose between the standard air filter and the carburettor is missing ( part number 4341 4453 0000) and unfortunately no longer available. Has anyone got any experience of using an aftermarket Air filter set up or has any suggestions for an alternative pipe? I would appreciate any help or comments
