You have good kit and are trying to frame your shots. The angle of your shots are often hampered by where the light / sun is in the best place so use fill in flash as has been mentioned is a great trick. Take sacrifisial shots of first riders through the section and don't take all your shots on the same settings. back in the day 2 rolls of 36 was all I could afford but today you can fire off a couple of hundred. I would be happy with only a hand full of great shots out of that. Although the cameras are slr's it all happens real quick so I would recommend using (THE FORCE) lol it comes down to luck and sticking at it. Cheers tbone.
Great that's one thing less to buy but I think I will still have a big shopping list. I am going to start getting little bits every week or so to spread the cost out.
I noticed them today when I was looking for something else.
I have just been in the back of the garage moving things about to get all the parts in one heap, some are in the loft which is just as untidy. There were some new bits and bob's and among them were a 4 new bearings boxed up SKF 6205C3. I am hoping the mains in the 340 match as I will have got them for other bikes that I sold with out restoring them.
Just an up date and my next question. I have cleaned up the swing arm and coated it with rust cure to hold it's condition until it is blasted and powder coated. I will do the arm white because I no that's the way it should be. Next question is bearing codes for the motor but firstly I would like to fit a tapered head set ? anybody got any codes cos I want to keep the cost down as there is a lot to do on this bike. I seem to remember that the early models were to small to take tapered sets, hope that is not the case for the 340 ?
I can remember asking a lad about what mix he used and he just said 20 to one real quick and rode off. I watched him
at a refuel some time later and he put un mixed fuel in the tank then opened a new two stroke oil and just tipped some in with out even checking what he had tipped in he was off again. LOL.
I had a ty270r on a day time mot but that was before they started getting hot on road use with comp tyres ?. I have a new pair of miches for the bult it would be a shame not to use them.
When you go to the powder coaters I find it's best to take all the bits and bob you can for good value. If I just take the arm it will cost to much. I have some black frames that need doing but don't like the idea of a black arm. Yes I have stripped the bushes out and will
I have had the frame powder coated with some parts that a friend was getting done but could not lay my hands on the swing arm but have found it now. I should have got it done at the same time but like to clean things up first to get the best results. Was thinking of doing the arm and side stand silver but not sure. Another thought was to spray paint them so I can re touch the as they get marked ?.
yes i know witch bike you mean. i think its just routed that way to make more clearance not sure about the power. 1 off my 199Bs has had quit a few mods done to it but all the work was done by the last owner still looks prity standard. the head stock as been moved in give a much tighter turn. and the swing Arm as been made longer and moved foward. the rear brake hub is on the R/H side. and the head steady has been made stronger also the gear drum pluger has been cut down to allow the swing Arm to move forward. but shes in bits at the moment ready for a engine rebuild.
Interesting, are you doing the motor yourself ? . I will have to give my motor a good overhaul and clean it all up, it's caked in hand painted black heat paint about several coats and the chips were never blended in just more pain over the top (not by me ). I got the bike about 25 years ago and just put it to one side as I had some 250's and a 325 and was using a fantic 240 pro so the dirty example of a 340 got pushed to the back of the garage never to see the light of day until now.
hello tbone i see what you mean it is nice. but each to there own i like bultaco to be bultacos there are ways to make them run better with out changing the appearance of them. but dont take my word for it am just voicing my opinion. if thats what you want to do go for it and enjoy doing it cheers bondy.
Thanks for the advice bondy.
I have seen a restored standard looking bult with a new front pipe in bare metal of some sort. I like the shape of the standard pipe, it just says (I am a bultaco) to me but thought I would ask the question about the route to see why it went the other way ? Do you no which bike I am talking about ?.
ive just had my exhaust repacked if the bike is set up proper you dont need to do anything else.aprt from ride it.
Hello bondy
I have seen photo's of 340's on this site of bult's with new looking pipe work and one of them seemed to be bare metal, that's why I asked about stainless. From past retorations I no that I will spend more than the bike is worth but if I have fun doing it and enjoy owning it so be it.
At this point I will say that I have seen some real nice Bult's on this site so others must think it's worth doing.
Stainless steel is a lot of work so I would not even try. Copying these bodged up exhausts will not transform the bike it will still be a 70's Bultaco twinshock. Is it worth the effort? My advice keep standard but do make sure the exhaust is cleaned out and packed correctly.

Hello twin shock
What I am trying to achieve is a first class restoration of a bike that I have not used for a lot of years. I like the restoration part of it as much as the riding of it. I love the old Bults and want to refurb the bike to keep and use, not to win trials but I want it to run as well. It needs a ground up rebuild and just want to plod through the work as I get time.
I am new to the forum and joined to get information on restoring my 340.
I was thinking about the exhaust and have seen photo's of commerfords/vesty bikes and the puma bikes. If I was going to the bother of fabing up a new front tube would you go for stainless and would you change the route of the pipe.?
Big finns on the head and barell on the 350, much tighter together on the 250 which I think looks a bit older than a 350 of the same year. Every one should have one in the back of the garage some where LOL.
