Thanks for the replies. Is there a way of testing the mag, bearing in mind that it's probably getting weak when it's hot? I've never had the engine apart but she only seems to smoke when I get it really hot. Probably due a 'going' through. I also wonder if the fuel I'm using is contaminating the spark plug because the plugs are hard to clean using a wire brush. Using normal unleaded. Was going to try a different plug first to see what difference it makes if any before going in deeper.

Hi all, Just wondering what spark plug I should be using in my 500T. It's running a standard BTH TT magneto and the plug cap has no resistor in it. I do get a bit of sooting of the plug but I guess that's from running slow a lot. Thanks in advance.

Might help, I bought a small ultrasonic cleaner from aldi for £19.99. It's not big enough to fit the whole carb in but I do one half then turn it over and do the other half. Amazing how clean it comes out. I found that dirt in the carb reaks havoc. Some just wouldn't come out with blowing air through the jets.

Hi, I'm going to change my rear wheel from a 19 inch to a 18 so I can run a softer compound tyre. I like the idea of a Michelin xlite. I've only found tubeless versions, do they do a tubed version? Do I just run a tube inside like a normal tubed tyre or do I need to do any modifications? It's on a Norton 500t so it quite a heavy bike. Thanks, Pete.

Thanks for the advice/help everyone. Got my registration number today! Turns out after contacting Honda uk that my bike is a 1975 TL250 and not '76 like I thought. I went through an agent in the end which was so easy. Thanks to all again.

Hi, I'm trying to get an age related registration plate for my 1976 TL250 Honda and I've come across a stumbling block. I need a Nova reference number. I bought the bike about 4 years ago from a shop on eBay and I imagine it's been imported from America but I can't find my receipt. Has anyone had any experience with this? All the forms I can find on the HMRC website seem to point to the importer to apply for the Nova declaration. I phoned the HMRC helpline and they told me I need to fill out another form but that asked for a previous registration number......which it's never been registered so doesn't have one. This doesn't seem like it's going to be easy. Any advise would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
