  1. Hi, sadly the Yeovale MCC charity trial scheduled for boxing day at Stoford (nr Yeovil) has been called off. Cheers, Stoford.
  2. Hi, Last weekend our club (YeoVale) ran the penultimate round of the South Western Centre Championship. Whilst walking around the course I got chatting to Joe Baker and I asked him what he thought of the new Scorpa and he said he really liked it. After the trial he sought me out and offered me the chance to ride his bike.... I currently ride an '04 SY and so this was a bit of a step up in terms of age but what a really smooth motor. I used to have a 290 Sherco and although it was nice it was always a little bit too 'sharp' for me, this new Scorpa was fantastic to ride, loads of grunt and it pulled really smooth right off the bottom, with no hesitation whatsoever. The bike felt light, although not quite as light as a Gasser feels but very nice and balanced. The motor was the big surprise for me and I did ask Joe what had been done to it, as it was so nice, and he assured me that the motor was stock. I really liked it and for the record I think that ALL trials bikes are expensive at
  3. Hi Shrub, Don't know where you are in North Somerset, but there are several clubs around in the area. If you look on the ACU website you can find contact details for clubs, I expect the AMCA clubs can also be found the same way. Another contact point is to look on TC or in TMX for details of trials events and go along and ask - most people in this sport are very helpful. I live near Yeovil and ride with Yeo-Vale, Blackmore Vale (AMCA), Weymouth and Bridport, and other clubs in the region, it really depends how far you want to travel. For gear I'd suggest a pair of boots and helmet (obviously) are essential, again if you ask around you can probably find a used pair of boots for a reasonable price. Again, once you start asking people it's amazing how the trials grapevine works. MX gear is generally easier to get and often cheaper than pukka trials kit and is fine to start with. Cheers, Stoford
  4. Hi Cman, Liked the video. I was lucky to live in Az a few years ago and whilst I was there did a lot of trail riding, mostly singletrack, and the video brought back lots of happy memories - thanks. Glad to see that trials is getting a little more popular over there. Cheers, Stoford.
  5. Hi, My son has a GasGas 125 (05), and whilst I agree with you it is a great bike to ride and is easy to throw around etc. I'm fed up with constantly having to fix it beyond the normal maintenance (filters etc, etc) and I'd happily swap it for something else if I could persuade my son to part with it. I currently have an 02 290 Sherco, which has been a great bike, and yes, I have had to do some work on it, but nothing like the Gasser. I'm looking to buy a Scorpa now and one of the things that attracts me is the reliability, which everybody talks about. Cheers, Stoford.
  6. Hi, for what it's worth I think that one piece suits should be left to the professionals or the ladies (who usually look best in them ). Trials jeans fit better than MX jeans and are (in my opinion) more comfortable to wear, although it's not an essential item of clothing - go to any club trial and look at the variety of clothing being worn! As has already been mentioned, trials boots are a lot more comfortable and easier to wear both on and off the bike than MX boots, although I do know some people who prefer to wear MX boots due to old injuries as they like the level of support offered by the stiffer construction. Unlike MX, trials (unless you're 15 or a rising star) isn't really driven by fashion. I believe most riders prefer functionality over fashion - or perhaps we're all tight old gits! Cheers, Stoford.
  7. Hi, Can anybody tell me what gearbox oil they're running in their 290 Sherco and/or what they'd recommend? Also what make of brake pads would you recommend? Cheers, Stoford.
  8. I live on the Somerset/Dorset border and unfortunately we live in a black hole where trials shops are concerned. We did have 'Active Bikesport' in Yeovil up to a few years ago, but I guess the business wasn't profitable enough. I have asked Jeff Goss in Bryan Goss Motorcycles (Yeovil) about stocking trials kit and he said that there isn't enough of a market for him to get in clothing on spec, but he does have a limited supply of trials boots and helmets. If there is anything you particularly want he could probably get it for you, he's very helpful. There is OAS in Newton Abbot and RCM at Redruth, but again these are a bit of a trip just to look at kit, and I don't know what they have in stock as I've never been down there. Although I have ordered from BVM and been very happy with the service etc, when I was in the Stroud area earlier this year I called in to have a look around and was very disappointed, but that's a personal opinion. Perhaps I was expecting more after seeing their website etc although I'd still order from them in the future. Cheers, Stoford.
  9. Please note: The venue for the Yeo Vale trial scheduled for this next Saturday (22 September) has now changed. New Venue: Keinton Lane Quarry, Charlton Adam. All the details are in the events calendar on Trials Central. Cheers, Stoford.
  10. Hi All, Just to remind you that Yeo Vale MCC are holding Round 3 of their Summer Series of trials on 25th August. Unfortunately the entry form wasn't in the current South West Centre Gazette. However, entry forms will be available on the day. For all relevant details please look at the events calendar on Trials Central. Cheers, Stoford.
  11. Hi, Mashman, I've only been riding trials for the last 18 months or so and I've got on well with a 290 Sherco, but I have just bought my son a 125 Gasser and the power it produces is really impressive and it pulls me around easily. There are several adults locally who only ride 125's and they do really well. The main advantage to looking for a 250 is probably going to be price and availability (unless you're looking to buy new) there are lots of used 250 + bikes around. Why not go along to a local event and ask around, in my experience almost everybody in the trials world are very happy to share information. The chances are you'll be shown a few bikes for sale, or pointed in the direction of someone who knows of a good bike for sale. Good luck in your quest and once you've got a few events under your belt you'll wonder why you didn't start doing trials years ago! Cheers, Stoford
  12. Hi, does anyone know if there is an aftermarket piston kit (ie. Wiseco or ProX) available for the 290 Sherco? Thanks, Stoford.
  13. Hi, My son's '00 125 Rev 3 isn't getting any power to the fan. I've checked the feed from the generator and that's OK, the fan works fine when a separate power source is connected to it, I've shorted the wires from the thermostatic switch and still no go. I think the problem is with the 'adjuster' (ref Beta manual) which I'm guessing is usually known as the voltage regulator. The one I have is only identified with the word ' TRANSVAL' and the numbers 896. Does any bright spark...? have any idea how to test this or where I can get another one or alternative? or has anybody had a similar problem? Thanks, Stoford.
  14. Hi, Thanks for the info. Stoford.
  15. Hi, I'm looking to get myself a van and I like the look of the Peugeot Expert/Citroen Dispatch/Fiat Scudo models. Does anyone have any experience with these? I have looked at these vans from the outside but the length looks a little marginal especially when I'm looking to transport two bikes. Thanks, Stoford.
