  1. don't know how interested you are, but i just read this and it mentioned cyprus quite a lot. well i now live here. I live in a small ish village between paphos and limassol up in the hills. its the absolute mutts knuts for trials, best thing about it is i can jump on my sherco and ride it from my house to where ever i wish and nobody bats an eyelid, farmers, police, neighbours they just wave at me and shout "hiya" the terrain is just great, only thing thats missing (if you like that sort of thing) is water. i get 2 hours almost everyday now its like having my own farm but its huge. plenty of big rocks to jump up/down tons of steep hills, some stuff that simply scares me half to death to even look at but a decent rider would fly over. just why trails isn't big here i have no idea.
  2. small update malcolm rathmells were fantastic. sadly the sherco was another story. full story to follow! When my son was riding it last weekend i could hear a whistling sound, CLUE 1 IE leaking compression. obviously i figured there was a problem and i took it home. when i took it to bits there wasn't any water in it. CLUE 2 As i took the head off, some of the studs were loose leading me to think the destroyed o ring was caused due to hot gas leaking as the head wasn't tight, how wrong could i be. the melted o ring was caused by the water pump seal failing due to the axle on the small gear to the impeller being worn, so worn as to almost warrant a picture (can't be a***d). I think he was lucky not to seize it up so its back to malcolm rathmells in the morning, new seals, new axle might as well be a new bearing to. the thing to watch out for is if you see any water dripping from the small weep hole near the water pump cover or if you see any exhaust gas staining then you have a problem. its really easy to fix to be honest, its only taken me an hour at most up to press. anyway bike goes into the container to cyprus on friday so i'll have just enough time to rebuild it before it goes.
  3. ok cheers for all your help. o rings and stud seals ordered this morning, i also treat it to a new set of front wheel bearings as they are goosed. the rotational movement is bugger all to be fair and although i don't want to take the barrel off just now, from what i can guess by moving the piston up and down there isn't any excessive play. studs are fine as well. its just that some of them came out but they are back now. finally malcolm rathmells furnished me with the torque settings for the studs so no stripping from me chaps. i guess i could say this thread is now closed!!! thanks once again.
  4. i take it that means the little end is shot! its a tad rattly to be honest!
  5. indeed, i think the reason the inner O ring went was due to the fact that the head wasn't tightened down enough and there was some blowby. when i took the head off some studs stayed in the barrel and some came out, i'll deal with all this when i rebuild it. I've never pesonally striped an head bolt but i've done exhaust bolts and its a bugger you have to get them helicoiled and to be fair thats not the best. just another small question, should i be able to slightly twist the piston in the barrel, its not much but if you put your fingers on it there i deffo a small amount of play 1/2mm maybe. there is no up and down play which is cool. oh and thanks judd if i think barnsley might be even nearer, as im working in halifax monday - wednesday
  6. thanks guys, yeh its 2 x o ring seals... i found malcolm rathmell not long after making this post and will be ringing him first thing on monday. harrogate is only 45 mins from my house (by ducati) so if they are in stock i'll pop over. I want to get them before i get to cyprus, believe me its so much easier to get things here than it is there, also i won't have internet for about 6 weeks.. cheers Rick
  7. hi guys where can i get one of these, the head gasket has gone on my 2002. this is quite urgent, the bike goes in the container for shipping to cyprus on thursday! im in the uk, any where in the north west would be better still
  8. cheers for that, just bought a second sherco 2.9 to take to cyprus and possibly a couple more coming. We have some land that the quads will be racing on, but if you check out the picture i think i'll be building a few sections on it as well.
  9. hi, i just stumbled across this splendid looking forum, more over last week i just stumbled upon a sherco 2.9 and if you consider my last trials was 20+ years ago i think im just about hooked again. anyway my name is rick had bikes all my life, i'm from lancashire, england but am just about to move to cyprus for a change and to do this www.cyprusquads.com for a living. hi to everybody anyway!
