  1. Hi guys, just a warning about more thieving B******S. My bike was stolen from my garden shed at about 3:30 am thurs 17. april. in Blyth Northumberland. My bike is a.... (WAS) a Gas Gas TXT 249 1999. in blue and was in almost mint condition as i had just finished restoring it. I thought it was safe and sound in my brick built shed in my back garden, the only way in is through a very narrow yard which has a 6ft locked gate at the front, a 4ft bolted gate at the rear and two very loud wheelie bins in between, the shed was also locked up with a very heavy duty padlock. It takes me....(USED TO TAKE ME) a good half hour to get the bike out of the shed, move the wheelie bins out of the yard, get the bike down the yard and through the narrow front gate which has my car parked right in front of it completly blocking it in. I stupidly thought that any thieves would never do this without making a massive amount of noise and waking me or my large dog. Unfortunately the thieving B******S weren`t thinking along the same lines as me, and after silently removing the padlock from the shed they lifted the bike over a 4.5ft side fence and simply pushed the bike out through my neighbours garden which wasn`t very secure and doesn`t have a large dog or a car on the drive. doh..... i AM an idiot..... The moral of this story is that it`s no good thinking like a decent, respectable bike owner, YOU HAVE TO THINK LIKE A THEIVING B*****D, and it`s no good just looking at the security of your own place, you have to consider the neighbours setup aswell. Anyway guys my bike is gone (devistating to say the least) and i just wanted you all to be aware and to maybe have a good think about your own security and take a look at it from the scumbags point of veiw !
  2. Hi everyone, could anybody tell me the bearing number for the top end bearing on a 2001 txt 280 and also if i replace this bearing will i also have to replace the gudgeon pin ? Cheers in advance for any info.
  3. Cheers for the excellent advice guys, i have followed your instructions and the bike is now idling much better and the throttle response is great. I have been away from bikes for quite a while now and it`s been great sorting out this very rough bike, i`ve replaced the wheel bearings, headset bearings and fork seals, the only problem i have now is a little bit of clutch drag, i have changed the gearbox oil with ATF Dexron 3 as apparently this is what gas gas recommend, and the clutch works much smoother now but the drag is still there. Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated. Keep giving the good advice guys because without it, us people without a clue would be well stuck. Cheers again. John.
  4. I hope someone can help me here, i have a 99 txt 250 which i have just bought recently, it was a real mess when i got it and i have just finished sorting it out, i have stripped everything and cleaned it up ( new air filter, fresh fuel, cleaned all pipes and filters and new oil) and i have put it all back together.when i kicked it over it started second kick no problem but now it is seems to be revving a bit too fast on tick over and very fast with the choke on, although i didn`t adjust anything while it was stripped. Could this be because it had been adjusted before hand when the bike had a dirty air filter and clogged-up fuel filters ? Will i have to re-adjust the carb now that everything is new and clean ? and if so can anyone suggest how to set the fuel and airscrews. Thanks in advance for any advice.
  5. Hi everyone, i`m after some advice on getting the right size headset bearings for my gas gas txt 250 (1999). I ordered a headset kit from a bearing company and was told it would fit my bike but alas it does not. The kit i got is a cup/cone taper roller bearing kit and i was told my frame should measure 42mm and the stem should be 20mm but the stem on my forks (which are gas gas ones) is only about 17mm. Can anyone shed any light on this and if possible does anyone know the correct sizes or even a code number for the correct bearings. This is very frustrating and any help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers. John.
  6. cheers for the advice guys, it`s much appreciated and has been a great help.
