  1. ok, I couldn't find either of the above, but used some red silicone designed for high temps and oil-resitant. I put on two applications Sunday afternoon and checked it about 4 hours later and so far, no leak...I didn't fire it up as I wanted it to cure overnight...if that doesn't work, I'm biting the bullet and taking the left-side cover off...if I do, will anything fall out that I can't figure out how to put back?...Bob
  2. Thanks Steve, I appreciate the tip and I'm not overly worried about that part, but not sure what I'm going to find when I open it up and if there will be a problem finding another seal or o-ring or whatever the sight-glass is pressed into...I'm going to try an earlier suggestion on a sealant and if that doesn't work, I'll pull the cover...Bob
  3. Thanks Stork, I thought of using an oil/heat resistant silicone, guess it wouldn't harm anything if it doesn't work. I'm reluctant to take off the cover and maybe create something worse than I now have...the darned thing runs very strong right now...just that unsightly leak...I recently drained and measured the oil and put it back in so I could do the same and compare after a few hours of riding to see just how much I'm losing. I know it doesn't take much to look like a lot...Bob
  4. Hello, I posted a question asking for help in eliminating an oil leak that is coming from the bottom of the oil-level sight glass. It appears to be leaking from a rubber ring the glass is probably pressed into. The glass is worthless anyhow, would there be any chance a rubber plug could be glued in in place of the sight-glass and I wouldn't have to remove the left-side cover. My other question is what might it entail taking the cover off and replacing the ring or seal (whichever it is)? Am I going to encounter a gasket when I take the cover off and have to deal with that too? At first I didn't think it was losing that much, but I'm now thinking differently...thanks for any help...Bob p.s. I've had 146 views, but no answers on my last post...
  5. Hello, I recently purchased an old Fantic 403-300-250cc twin-shock. It runs great, but I noticed fresh oil accumulating on the debris between the skid-plate and the engine case. I took the plate off and cleaned everything and rode it for about 20 minutes and I'm finding a slight drop of oil accumulating around the bottom of the sight glass on the left engine case. There's an o-ring there that I assume the glass fits into and the oil is coming out around that o-ring. Any ideas on stopping it short of taking off the left cover? I'm assuming there's a gasket between the cover and the engine casing that I wouldn't want to damage as I'm betting its hard to get a replacement. I was recommended earlier to put Silkleen "light" gear oil in the bottom end, but can't seem to source it in Colorado. Any idea what works well in there and what viscosity would "light" gear oil be?...any help will be greatly appreciated...thanks in advance...Bob

    Fantic 300

Hello, I have an old twin-shock Fantic 300 (model 403) that I recently bought. The sight-glass for the lower-end oil is cloudy and I want to make sure it has the proper level of oil. I want to change it anyhow, what is the best oil to use and how much will it take. I'm assuming the gear-box uses the same lubrication as the lower end? Thanks in advance...Bob

    Fork Seals

Hi Glenn and Lee, Thanks for both replies, I will be sure to take my time. The seals I have are "seeping" and I've ridden it a few hours and not seen any difference in fork dampening. I'm not going to ride it far or long, is there any percentage in draining the old fluid and adding the proper amount and seeing if maybe I can wait a bit to replace the seals? Also, the sight glass on the bottom of the engine casing is cloudy and I want to drain the oil and add the proper amount so as to not run it either over or under full...what is the proper amount to add when changing the oil? Lastly, are there any on-line downloadable manuals that I might find so I don't have to ask what must seem to the group as mundane questions? Thanks again...Bob

    Fork Seals

Thanks Glenn, removing them and having a tech replace the seals is a great idea. Do you have the spec. for what fork oil will work best and how much to add? Thanks, Bob...

    Fork Seals

Hello, I'm a newbie to Fantic Motors, just picked up what I think is between an'82 and '85. The model is a 300 Trial (professional), twinshock, front kick. Its in pretty good shape, very good mechanically, but the fork seals are seeping pretty good and I'd like to find replacements. Any tips on sourcing them in the US (I'm from Colorado)? Also any tips on actually putting them in and getting the old ones out? I've sourced those repairs out in the past, but would like to learn to do this myself. Also, I've tried to find an on-line manual, but not had any luck yet. The bike's a hoot to play with and I'm amazed at how quick it is in the top (3) gears... Any help will be greatly appreciated...thanks, Bob...
  10. Hi, I'm Bob from Colorado. I've been into motorcycling for 40+ years, but this is my first Trials bike. It is a '83-85 Fantic 403, 300-Professional. Its in pretty good shape for its year and runs very well. I'm going to need to get new fork seals and tweak the drum brakes a bit, but other-wise its ready to ride. I'll post elsewhere to find sources for the seals, etc...thanks, Bob.
