  1. I took both my lads to the C & D National on the IOW last year. They both enjoyed the trial, it was a well run event and clearly Alan and his team had put a great amount of effort and enthusiasm into ensuring it's success. Both lads were in the last year of thier respective classes. They had done all the previous rounds in 2004 and with final Championship places being at stake did not want to miss the final National of the year. The trial took place on a Saturday in term time. Travelling from Manchester, I had to get permission from both boys schools to have them released early on the Friday, so as we could drive down in time to catch the ferry and arrive at our <mention of this company is not permitted on Trials Central> at a reasonable hour. Taking entry fees, ferry, diesel. <mention of this company is not permitted on Trials Central> (two nights), meals and sundries into account I spent between
  2. My son has a 2004 Gas Gas125 Pro. We had the same problem, the petrol weeps from the weld at the seat end of the tank. I was put in touch with a local welder and that solved the problem.

    Beta Rev80 Wheel

I was told at one of the recent C & D Nationals that a Gas Gas 2001 rear wheel would fit, but I haven't tried one yet. We have this week added a flywheel weight to the Rev 80. Will report back on it's effect. Others have had good results. Time will tell.
  4. Whether it's a Youth C & D National or a British adult Championship trial with Dougie, Jarvis & Colley etc..... the difference in the ability between the top few and the rest is massive. For the youngsters, those kids who this year are at the top of the results, were the ones dropping 150 marks last year or the year before. The learning curve is steep. Every week these riders are learning new skills, so it's hardly surprising that over 3 years (the amount of time in one class) the difference between the 'new boys' and the 'big lads' is going to be huge. My sympathes are with the Clerk of the Course. He can't win !!
  5. I agree with you AS. Jordi has a point, but when the lad in 5th place on the 80cc C class drops over 100 marks how can the organisers be critised ? Perhaps, 3 section everyone can clean, 4 middleish & 3 real tester to sort the top lads out. If the less able lads are fiving a section which is too easy for the top lads, they won't be any worse off if you make few sections real stoppers. Well done the Surrey team, see you all at Bracken Rocks next week. Mike.
  6. Hi James Sorry no pic available. The plate that is in the pic above is on the 13 tooth sprockt, which also has a boss on it which spaces it from the engine casing. The 9 tooth sprocket is too small to have the same plate, so is held on by a circlip. The splined washer I have on my TLR 200 (a genuine Honda part !!) is the bit you need. Back to Tim at Gordon Farley. Cheers Mike
  7. Hi James Try Tim at Gordon Farley Motorcycles, (01483 538485). He sold me a splined spacer that goes onto the shaft before the sprocket and a new spropcket with a boss on casing side of it. The splined spacer only goes on the shaft so far, and keeps the sprocket well away from the casing. Good luck. Mike
  8. Hi James I got a TLR a couple of months ago and had a similar problem I think. I spoke to Gorden Farley Motorcycles (01483 538485). There answer was a sprocket (9 tooth) with a boss on the back of it and a splined washer. The washer goes on the shaft first with some black grease, next the sprocket and circlip. This combination keeps the chain and sprocket well away from the engine casing. Job done for less than

    Gas Gas Txt Boy 50

We've run a TXT Boy for the last 2 years in the Youth Nationals, D class. ( Up to 8 years ols). Our TY80 is down in the celler and at this standard it is not competitive. The Gasser is half the weight, more power (as in instant up a step power) fantastic brakes, suspension to die for and dead easy to ride. No contest. Whilst the Gasser does have two gears it is an auto. The bottom gear is the only one for sections. The clutch lever does disengauge the drive just as on a full size bike. A rider can pull in the clutch before a step, build up the revs, dump the clutch and hey presto instant flight is achieved. However the bike doesn't stall if the clutch lever is left untouched, just like an automatic car I guess. If the child is older or larger/stronger then the TY80 is still a great little bike. The gasser is quite small so the size of the child may be the deciding factor. But in D class a well riden little Gasser will stuff a TY80 every time, and my older son came second in the British Championships a few years ago on our TY80, so I do rate them. Just keep an eye on the electrics though, they're a bit sensitive !!!!

    Down Sizing

My understanding is that your son is in his 2nd year of B class. The ACU website states that for 2005 all riders in B class will ride 125cc machines. However they also state that because of shortages of 125cc bikes (have they been looking with thier eyes shut) B class youths may ride larger capacity machines on a no award basis. (Subject the approval from the club) Although in any National events they will only be allowed to ride a 125cc. I'd sell the 250 and buy him a 125, ours is an 04 Gas Gas and it's spot on.
  11. I insure my trials bikes through Marsh Sport Group (01892 553160). The premium is 6% of your market value of the bike. Accidental damage (whilst not propelled under it's own power !!), fire & theft from your property or van or whilst at an event. No use if you want to go on the road, but some peace of mind when you hear of so many bikes being stolen. I had a claim 3 years ago and they paid up very promptly.
  12. Just after some advice if poss. I'm in the process of buying a Honda TLR 200. The bike is nearly identicle to the one posted by HondaRS in the Honda section on Trials Central, entitled - 600 mile TLR. As I hope to ride the bike in the easier trials around the area I plan to strip all the road going kit from the bike. Lights, indicators, ignition switch, battery etc.... and the 20 year old origional tyres, but not the gold wheels. My question is what should I do with it all? Do I keep it all in a big box and pass it on to the next owner? Could be several years. Or if there is a ready market for these parts, do I sell them? It goes against the grain to pay for something (all the road kit) and then bin it, but I feel examples like this one are far and few between and the end result should be a great little bike. Appreciate your opinions, GolfPro.
  13. Whilst Dougie may not have trained in Spain or had wads of ACU money thrown at him. I'm sure most of us would swap those things for being brought up within the Lampkin clan. The experience, advice and help from within that family for Dougie as he was growing up was surely as priceless as it was unique. Raw talent, is indeed the most important basic ingreedient. Bur raw talent needs skilled tuition and polishing to produce the finished article. If my lads could, they would practice and work hard on their bikes every day. However they would improve far quicker and learn much more if they were doing so with several other similarly skilled youngsters under the wathchful eye of someone like Steve Saunders. Hard work and raw talent are vital but probably not quite enough.

    Honda Tlr 200

I'm getting worn out following my two lads round on foot. Why should they get all the fun. 20 years ago I had a mint TLR 200 and now if poss. I like another one. I'll only do the easy routes (not easy for me) so I don't think I need the latest '05 Pro and anyway I need something other my lack of ability to blame !! Where would you look (TMX, EBAY, ????) and how much is a fair amount to pay for a reasonable example. The one on this site tonight looks absolutly fantastic, I'd keep it in my front room if it looked that good !!
