Beta Techno To Montesa 315

Featured Replies

Hi all,

i currently ride a Beta Techno (1999) which is in very good condition, however im looking at selling it and buying a Montesa 315 (2000) which is average condition for its age, my question is, is it worth while? In most peoples opinion is this going to be an upgrade of bike with it being a year newer or will it make no difference what so ever? Money is not a problem as its a friends Fathers bike so i can get it at a good price. And will there be much difference in weight? Also if people have changed from Beta to Montesa or Vice versa id like to know their opinions as iv been told il struggle on the hill climbs ect on a montesa after riding the beta for so long (something about having to do them in 3rd instead of 4th?)

Thanks for any help in advance.

I've never ridden "your friend's father's Montesa", so it would be had to say! :chairfall:

But, if your Beta is in "very good condition" and the Montesa is only "average condition for it's age", then why are you considering it?

You wouldnt damage it just borrow it to ride around on dont try out to drastic that you know you cant do all the time then you will see what its like to ride and if you would want it.

He's a lorry driver so works away a lot, hence getting hold of the bike is not as easy as it sounds.

because its a newer bike, and if my sources are correct the montesa is slightly lighter

Stay with yours and save up for something that is a lot newer. That Mont is still neaarly 7yrs old. There won't be much difference apart from the fact that they are different bikes, and if yours is in excellent condition then i can't see the benefits of changing.

'99 techno is still a super competitive bike - and saving a couple of kilos isn't going to make you a better rider!

No thats true, thanks for the comments so far guys

I have gone back and forth between having Beta's and Montesa's, I like them both very much. In this case I don't see it as a upgrade at all. I don't know the actual weights of the bikes but having ridden both in the past I can tell you they feel about the same when you ride them. Your Techno is a good bike and as someone else stated just wait until you can get a new or newer bike.
