Tapping Noise When Cold

Featured Replies

Ive only just got the bike. When its cold and i start for first time the engine sounds rattly... it sounds a lot better after ive ridden it once its warmed up.

Do they all make this noise of do i have a potential problem? 2005 4RT

Having also just got a second hand 2005 4rt I have had similar doubts but maybe its just the way they are. I guess as a previous 2 stroke owner I am not used to all the extra mechanical noise associated with a 4rt especially when cold and clearances are larger. Does the map installed on throttle body make a difference to the audible engine noise, ie more or less retarded?

Does anyone have good/bad experience of tappet adjustment. Any tips and does it make a difference?

Mine also make a whine from the primary drive gearing as soon as load is applied (in gear, clutch in or out). I have changed oil to ATF and had cover off and apart from minor play on the centre needle roller all looks fine. How much play is "normal" on clutch basket?

I will change bearing in near future to see if it eliminates this whine. Anybody else got similar noise?

Went to adjust the Tappets on mine, but they were spot on

Same noise before I checked them, fine when she's warm................just like any other 4 stroke

You should here the clatter on this when she's cold
