Montesa

  1. Started by kingscorpion,

Following a request that my friend Enrique made to me in the La Maneta forum, I decided to write a small guide to help those who do not know how the amazing “Montesa parts manuals” work, which make life easier for everyone who uses them. Above all, if we understand them as they were conceived in the factory. Even today I am amazed by the mentality of Pedro Permanyer, at a time when we were far from the rising of computer science in our lives. The system can’t be more logical. The first thing we should know is that, from the Impala, all Montesa parts have a unique reference formed by three groups of numbers (and sometimes a fourth group). These groups were separated…

I bought this Montesa 4rt in June. I've been meaning to post the work for a while. A touring motorcycle... It's rotten, completely neglected... but I got it for an indecent price. (and I have quite a few parts) There it is, disgusting at its purchase. First step washing the machine ... Iin the trash: The swingarm, the chain kit, the tires, the trim, the air box, screws, pads, rear disc, etc. I repaired the chassis, the bearings, sandblasted the triple clamps, fitted a tech aluminum fork, new braktec master cylinders, new latest generation braktec caliper and new hose. The orange wheels were in good condition but I didn't want to restor…

I found this bike 2 years ago. I like big alloy frame bikes and the 311 is an interesting model. Not a design masterpiece , not fashion bike, but cool. The bike is in good condition. Let start by the wheels. Cleaning everything, paint job, new bearings (I love working on wheels) I have a brand new platics set. The engine need paint job (main bearings, seals, maybe piston will be replaced) Marzocchi shock need full service. Every rubber parts will be replaced as usual on +20yo bikes ... (carburator, fork, hose, seals, grips, tyres... ) Calipers and master cylinder will be restored. …

  5. Anyone knows consequences of the fire please? I consider buying used 2023 4ride from a buddy but now doubt Honda is going to rebuild the factory. Main question for me is availability of the engine parts in the future. Any advice on this regard is welcomed)

  6. To carry out my other projects, I bought a 3rd 315R. A 2002 model. The objective of this one is to make a replica completely overhauled motorcycle, precise and efficient as the original for regular riding. The original fork (in very good condition) went on the Ogawa RTLF Replica. The fork (black tubes) of the 4rt (now RTLF) takes place after a major overhaul on this 315R The shock absorber is completely overhauled (gaskets, buffer, drain, pressure, ball joints) New linkage, new rockers. Carbon swingarm protection, and carbon kevlar fork guard. Swingarm pad, crown guard, front number plate, gas barrel, original grips. The covering receives a two-component varnish resistan…

There is some kind of white residue primarily on the front wheel of my 2018. It looks sort of like mineral deposits from where water dried. Detergent, Isopropyl alcohol and acetone do not remove it. A carnauba cleaner wax removes some but is way too much work for old hands. The rag with cleaner turns black so maybe it is some kind of oxidation. Is there an easy way to remove it?

  8. Morning, I’m looking for some help with my Montesa 301 RR 2022 clutch. I’ve had issues with the clutch since purchase a year ago. It’s progressively got worse with juddering, shrieking when hot and now a grinding sound under engine breaking. Ive changed the plates out for Mitani Alluminium discs, fresh HTX 740 and it hasn’t improved or changed at all. Any advice would be much appreciated.

After Ogawa's bike, here is the Colomer replica 1996 project. Special features of this motorcycle compared to the 1997 production version. Morad 36 spoke rims mounted on polished hubs. Païoli fork with DLC treated tubes. (not the 99 model black fork) Brake and clutch hoses with purple banjos. AJP front caliper previous serie with 31.8mm alloy pistons Flat tank Disc protector 314R 1995 “Colomer” headlight and more. AJP caliper with alloy pistons (Grimeca on the 97 model) …

Hi, Hope you will enjoy this project bike. Historical review. (google translate ...) Dougie had been riding for Beta for ages. He won the 97. 98. 99 world outdoor titles on the Techno. For the year 2000, Montesa - Honda offers the services of the English champion. In the commercial career of the 315R, the year 2000 saw the arrival in series of the Showa fork and the DID rims mounted on machined and polished hubs in their center. Doug's factory bike will foreshadow the 2001 production model in the following ways: -A longer exhaust tip. -A swingarm assembly modified to accommodate a caliper hidden behind it. (the rear hubs are narrower) -A shock absorbe…

Hey. Sure this has been asked before. 260 vs 301 for novice rider? Im 3 months into trials and the beta 300 i bought is a real handful. A mate wanted it off me, so got my money back on it. I ride most weekends but just havnt hit it off with the beta. Ive been riding bikes for years, im just new to trials. I've always had 4 strokes in whatever sport ive ridden in and id like to try a 4rt before I have to buy another 2t. Cheers

  12. Started by oldaz,

Almost finished rebuilding my VUK and finally got to TRY and install the kickstart return spring I got from Inmotion. Problems are, the hook that goes in the notch in bottom of lever is level with the pin that goes in the case - so the spring has to be "wound up" half a turn (180 degrees) to get it in there - if this is even possible. Second problem is IF I ever get it in there, when I operate the kicker it will load the spring another 180 degrees which seems way too much tension - I don't think the spring would last long this way. Does anyone know the correct method to fit the spring?

  13. I just got a new sets of plates for the clutch, problem is the old set is 18 plates in total, the original set is 10 plates. Old plates is without lamina. Thickness of old set is 21mm, new set is18,2mm. I guess previous owner has changed the whole clutch basket, or is it possible to use almost 3mm thicker set of plates in original plate holder? If it is exchanged, what model can it be from?

Hi, I’ve got a 2016 300rr when riding around under load or slight throttle I get some weird noises from the left side of the engine (sounds like a bag of ball bearings) soon as the clutch lever is pulled in it stops, release the lever and it starts again, any help is appreciated

  16. Started by Woods-Rider,

I have a 2015 4RT that I bought used in 2020. I've never had an issue with this bike, but it recently sat in my garage for about 6 months without being ran. It ran fine when last put away. I replaced the fuel with fresh non-ethanol fuel and tried to start it with no luck. It will start and run when spraying starting fluid down the air boot, so to me that points to a fuel issue. I unplugged the fuel pump connector from the bottom of the tank and connected 12v to it. Nothing happened. No pump sounds. No fuel out the disconnected fuel line. Is there something that would cause the fuel pump not to pump when directly connected to 12v power, other than a completely dead pump? I…

  17. Started by cactus jack,

I have been searching through Google pretty heavily and cannot find anything so i am putting a call out to anyone on here who may own this model bike or something that uses similar parts (I believe that the Cota 200 shared some parts with this model, but I am not certain of this). I have recently purchased one and need to make (as it seems they are most certainly not available) a rear brake pedal for this bike. I hoping someone on here may be able to help me by posting some close up detailed photo's of the pedal itself and the mounting mechanism for the pedal. This bike has most definitely seen better days but I am hoping to restore it to a reasonable fashion. P…

help required to identify my new purchase to hopefully obtain proof of manufacture date to enable registration for road use for dvla, bike was bought as a cota 200 but having doubts now as may be a mh200, it came with a white tank and cota 200 decals but has a montesa honda vin plate rivitted on front of steering stock and also a stamped number on side of steering stock both numbers are the same and start as MH200 prefix, the engine number has the same last three digits as the frame number but starts with 29H so numbers appear to be matching, however the 29H is puzzling as sources suggest 29M should be the prefix, the frame has the engine protection loops and the carb is…

Hi all! I just joined recently to see if anyone might have a potential solution to my problems with my Montesa Cota 172… hopefully I’m in the right place. The bike has been in my family since new, my older brother was the last to use it 20 odd years ago. I got it with the intent to get her running, here’s a list of what I’ve tried to do to get it going; 1.Replaced crank seals 2.Checked spark (bright blue and consistent with a brand new spark plug, verified coil is working correctly) 2.Verified timing (hasn’t changed since new) 3.Rebuilt the Amal 620 carburetor (tickler works as intended now) 4.Cylinder leakdown test passed I’…
