Welding On Frame

Featured Replies

Have got a '84 Armstrong twinshock that I'd like to re-position the footrests on. I am paranoid about damaging the electronic ignition if I weld the frame with the engine & electrics still in place, am I worrying unneccesarily?

Probably not that much risk, but, weigh it out for a minute. How hard would it be, how long would it take, to track down another ignition unit and get it working?

Now, how hard would it be to take the electronic unit out of the frame. (I am guessing under 1/2 hour tops) and set it on a bench where the only thing that will hit it is a bolt of lightning.

No brainer too me.

Disconnect it at least, remove it completely to be sure.

Don't even consider touching it with an electric welder of any sort until you have.

You will get away with it 99 times out of 100, it's the 100th time that you will remember.
