1999 250 Shock Replacement?

the original olle shock dampening seems very slow on my 1999 sherco 250. i've tried the standard and heavier spring at different preloads but just can't get it where i'm comfortable. i am considering replacing the shock as the bike is in very good condition otherwise. the trp lists shocks for 01 to 07. is the 01 the same fitting as the 99? not sure about ohlins if they would fit or what the model number would be? is it 36dr? any suggestions would be appreciated. i just getting back into trials and looking to update the bike a bit, also i like to tinker, part of the fun? (i did put new carbon boysen reed in which made nice difference in power delivery).
