July 1, 200818 yr hi all just doing a check over my bike earlier and came across the chain tensioner was lose. as i went to tighten the bolt up and found the thred inside the swinging arm is compleatly gone. i have not over tightend it. the thing is i dont think i can tap it out as the bolt for the tensioner is a special one and if i tap the thread out it will be larger than the size of the bolt? any one had this problem before? any help apprechated! max
July 1, 200818 yr I have not had your particular problem, but often you can go larger on the hole, and then install a helicoil. It will insert into the now larger hole, but provide new threads at the original size.
July 1, 200818 yr Heard of quite a few Betas having this problem as did mine, helicoil as above is the answer go to your local garage or plant hire place and they should be able to do it for a fiver or so, time sert fixings are good as well.
July 1, 200818 yr i might be wrong, but i thought that these inserts were called a 'rivnuts' and they are fitted like a pop rivet. i might have to go and remove mine to check ! http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Tucker-POP-Rivet-Nut...emZ190229578247 that sort of thing.
July 1, 200818 yr Author i had thort of both hellicoil and rivnuts. i think helicoil is the way to go and as i am on work experince with my local bike shop this week so it could prove to be quite handy. thanks for the quick responses! max
July 2, 200818 yr Max get Alan in racehill motorcylces to put a steel insert tread in there. They are a lot stronger than helicoils and will hold very well. How did you get on on sunday..??? not had any results yet..???? If your working at racehill this week i'll bring my wheel in so that you can do the rear trye and brearings. mike
