August 26, 200818 yr Thanks Mark, I've already done most of your tips but will try the taping mudguard/airbox joint. Probably starve it of air now!
August 26, 200818 yr Author How deep is the water you are riding in and how fast are you trying to go. You may need to slow down, or stay out of the deep water. My 08 does have a one way valve in the bottom of the airbox to let water out if it gets in. Water is very hard on engines! Wayne
August 26, 200818 yr Hi Wayne, in hindsight water might be getting in through those vents in the seat area of the mudguard when I going through water, I'm using a fine mesh too cover them at the moment but I might try blocking them off completely. This drain valve on the airbox, was it a factory fit or your mod? Mines an 07 290 and was thinking of trying to use some sort of non-return valve to allow water out but not let dirty air in at the airbox base.
August 26, 200818 yr Author If you are riding in high water and have those vents open that could certainly be a source of water intrusion. The valve in my airbox was factory installed. You might check the 08 parts book and see if it is in there. Wayne
August 27, 200818 yr As mine has no mesh on the mudguard, I do run a fiberglass reinforced screen (window) mesh glued to the air filter retainer. Definately keeps the large crap out of the filter, and seems to aid as a water repellant as well.
