September 27, 200421 yr Anyone know the sizes of the rear wheel bearings in my 2000 290 ? Thought I'd go down the bearing shop before I take the old ones out.

September 28, 200421 yr wondered what technique you used thats all, I go for the freezer and heat method, as the fit is not as tight as older bikes.
September 28, 200421 yr or if you can't be botherd to wait for the freezer grab a punch and knock em in. make sure you are hitting outside of race though!piece of bar same diameter of bearing even better!
September 29, 200421 yr I go for the freezer and heat method, as the fit is not as tight as older bikes. I've just bought a set of bearings today for the Beta (they're 6004 2RS too). Dabster, I'm guessing that the bearings go in the freezer so that they shrink and then when you heat up the wheel hub, it expands enough for the cold bearings to drop in easier. Any tips on getting the old ones out? Cheers
September 29, 200421 yr what the hell do you wanna put the wheel in fridge for!! guess u r joking!!, getting them out is quite tricky on some bikes as the internel spacer is a smaller diameter than the bearing. this means you cant slip a punch down and knock em oout. when faced with this i tend to get the mig welder out and build up a platform on the old bearings so i can punch them out.its quick and easy and harms nothin.(you need a welder though)
September 29, 200421 yr They really aren't that tight in my experience so gental heat and a tap from the other side usually gets the first out. You can buy fancy bearing pullers but who would want to do that.
