I have a 1997 techno and a service manual/ video for the Gas Gas of similar years. Did the Gas Gas use the same forks? They look the same. (before they started to make their own). The video shows that you force down the clear anodized piece around the seal to expose the seal for removal. Is this the removal procedure for the '97 techno? (I have never seen one like this.)

Yes....but don't forget to remove the wavey clip from the top of the seal first.

I had to make a round nylon pusher to press home the new seals prior to refiting the clip as well....good luck
